      • The Global Studies Institute for which the positions were advertised is a new initiative by GSU. They were seeking to hire a new Director in early 2014. I have not come across a website for this Institute. It is probable that they are using existing staff members to do double duty and process the applications. This might explain the lack of any confirmation emails.

The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (CHE - Geneva) - International History

  • Assistant professorship in International History, to begin 1 Sept. 2015

    • I had an on-campus interview at the Institute last year.  If they proceed this year like they did last year, they will skip first round interviews and go directly to on-campus interviews.  They will bring all the candidates to campus at once, but you will not see each other (unless in passing at the hotel or Institute).  You will meet with the director, give a job talk, meet with graduate students, and have dinner with a few faculty members.  Also, be aware that they take a LONG time to reimburse you for your flight.

    • No. But they were all Middle Eastern experts. Why bother soliciting applications from so many more scholars if they were just going to focus on one area. Waste of time for them and the applicants.
    • I can say with 100% certainty that none of the finalists were Middle Eastern specialists and that one finalist was Canadian and two non-Canadian; finalists were Africanists and South Asianists.
