The School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine invites applications from outstanding individuals for a 50% tenured position (above-scale full Professor) in the field of Global Critical Theory and Comparative Literature with expertise in postcolonial studies, globalization, nationalism, and world literature. The finalist will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and graduate seminars and be in residence at Irvine for a minimum of two quarters per year. We especially seek individuals with profoundly interdisciplinary and philosophical backgrounds who can foreground and model significant new approaches to critical analysis from a global and multilingual perspective. UC Irvine has a long and proud reputation in the area of critical theory, and the candidate will be expected to contribute prodigiously to the further development of Critical Theory at UC Irvine. Appointment will be in the Department of Comparative Literature. Candidates must have significant publications and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

The Department of History of Consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position in Critical and Cultural Theory at the associate professor (with tenure) level. We seek a scholar who is making original theoretical contributions beyond any one field of disciplinary expertise. The successful candidate should be able to engage with the broad range of interdisciplinary projects represented by the doctoral program in History of Consciousness and the interdisciplinary Humanities. Possible areas of research and teaching may include, but are not limited to: 1) race and ethnicity; disability; gender and sexuality; animal studies; 2) philosophy and theory, including psychoanalytic, political, postcolonial, Marxist; science and technology studies; humanisms and posthumanisms, human rights; theology and religion; 3) political economy and social movements, including globalization, world systems, environmentalism; 4) media, aesthetics, poetics: visual culture, music, literature, and digital arts.

We seek scholars with teaching and mentoring experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including doctoral supervision, and an interest in program building on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students and must be able to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and/or service.

This position carries a five-course equivalency workload, which normally means teaching four courses scheduled over three quarters and carrying other academic and service responsibilities.

RANK: Associate Professor

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in a relevant field in the Humanities, Social Sciences, or Arts; a record of interdisciplinary research and scholarly productivity; a record of college teaching and graduate student supervision.
