Antioch College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Performance for the fall of 2014. Successful candidates should have an MFA, a terminal degree or Masters Degree in a relevant disciplinary field with commensurate professional experience. A commitment to quality undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment is required and teaching experience is highly preferred. Applicants must also be demonstrably engaged in an active performance practice; have the ability to effectively critique student work and provide project mentoring to students across performance genres and strategies; and, must be able to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Rank and tenure status are open depending on qualifications, and salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Performance is a major in the Arts Division, along with Media and Visual Arts. The successful applicant will help maximize links across Arts courses and will contribute to building our undergraduate Performance program. Goals of the Performance program are to develop students' physical, vocal, and narrative skills through courses in voice and speech, basic acting, movement, storytelling, and autobiographical performance amongst others. In addition to offering courses within the discipline, the candidate is expected, in a collaborative format, to contribute to organizing interdisciplinary, team-taught Global Seminars. Applicants will also be expected to be closely involved with student advising, including overseeing Senior Projects/Theses in Performance.

We seek a candidate with broad experience in performance, interest in a multicultural orientation toward performance, as well as knowledge of the performing arts, theater/ performance history and contemporary practices. Areas of focus may include interdisciplinary, multi-media performance, community-based performance, directing, documentary theater, acting pedagogy and site-specific performance. Candidates should be excited to participate in the project of reinvigorating a historic liberal arts college and reconsidering liberal arts education for the twenty-first century. Candidates should be prepared to teach within an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum dedicated to bridging the gap between theory and practice.

The School is a dynamic teaching, learning and discovery environment composed of approximately 750 undergraduate students (350 in filmmaking practices, 80 in film and media production, 230 in theatre and 100 in dance and dance education) and 50 graduate students in the PhD programs in theatre and performance of the Americas and theatre for youth and MFA programs in performance, performance design, directing, dramatic writing, theatre for youth, interdisciplinary digital media, dance and theatre for youth.

As an assistant professor of dance, the successful candidate will have a distinguished record of creative activity (performance, choreography, new media, or related fields) and/or scholarship. The duties will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in contemporary modern dance, contemporary ballet and creative practices. The faculty member will be expected to provide individual mentorship to students, serve on MFA committees and develop a significant research agenda that includes the presentation of creative work and/or scholarly publications. Participation in curriculum development and faculty governance at the school, institute and university levels are required.

Required Qualifications: National/international record of creative activity and/or scholarship in performance, choreography, new media, dance pedagogy, movement studies, or related fields; terminal degree in dance or related field; teaching experience in higher education.

Desired Qualifications: An interest in innovative practices that broaden current notions of dance and education; Ability to teach performance research, theory and methodology in current dance and art making practices; certification in K-12 education, a somatic discipline and/or movement analysis; expertise in additional movement practices (e.g. urban movement practices, contact improvisation, dances of Africa); strong interpersonal and communication skills; computer and media/technology skills.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with current area faculty and to teach undergraduate and graduate level coursework as dictated by school and program needs in: pedagogy and critical pedagogy; educational research methodologies; field specific theory, history and literature; and specialized courses in the candidate's specific research area. Additional job duties include: maintaining an active research profile through scholarly publication and conference participation; active and engaged mentorship to pre-service teachers and graduate students; maintain connections between the university and K-12 schools in the metro area and state; model/demonstrate master teaching of drama and theatre with grades K-12 youth; directing and serving on student committees including BA Capstones, MA theses, MFA applied projects, and PhD dissertations; supervising student field experiences and professional internships.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a terminal degree in theatre or a related field and at least two years' experience as a lead instructor at a college or university or a superior record of teaching and service in a K-12 environment. Candidates will also have a research and publication record in theatre education and one or more of the following: critical literacy, program management and development, youth theatre, policy research, assessment and evaluation, and national or state standards.

Desired Qualifications: State or National Board Certified Teaching Credential or an equivalent record of teaching and service in a K-12 environment. Demonstrable experience in seeking research support. Spanish bilingual candidates are highly desired.

Bard College (NY) -TT Assistant Professor, Theater History and Contemporary Practice

The Theater and Performance Program is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor in Theater History and Contemporary Practice, beginning August 2014. Faculty member will teach courses in Theater and Performance Theory and History, Contemporary Practice in Theater and Performance, and Dramatic Literature. We seek a scholar with a PhD or a highly qualified dramaturg with an MFA, DFA, or equivalent terminal degree. Strong candidates will also have significant experience collaborating with practicing artists in the professional theater as directors, writers or dramaturgs. A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment and active participation in the development of an ambitious and forward thinking program are a must.

Bard's Theater and Performance Program is housed in the landmark Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, a state of the art facility designed by Frank Gehry, that includes two theaters, a suite of studios, and full shop facilities. The program is built on an integrated and interdisciplinary philosophy that places equal emphasis on context, technique, and creative practice and research. Bellarmine University (KY) - TT Assistant/Associate Professor, Theater

The Department of English at Bellarmine University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to begin August 2014.  We are searching for a Theatre Director to oversee a young B.A. program (housed in the English Department) offering a major and a minor in Theatre.   As program director, the person in this position will need to produce, direct, oversee set design and building, and take on many tasks from large to small.  We seek a theatre director who is versatile, committed to excellence in teaching, willing to collaborate with other departments, and collegial.  A strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment is essential.

Requirements: Advanced degree in Theatre required.  Doctorate or Masters with extensive experience preferred. Viable candidates need to have at least three years experience in the managerial aspects of overseeing a theatre program. Candidates should be able to teach a range of courses in theatre, especially acting, directing, and other theatre or general education courses depending on expertise.  Demonstrated excellence in scholarship is necessary, and ongoing scholarship is expected as part of the position.

Especially with a (potentially) senior-level hire, lengthy negotiations are not uncommon. They could even be making their way down their short-short list, with lengthy negotiations each time. They don't want to tell us "definitely not" until someone has signed a contract. Best bet for most peace of mind at this point - just email the chair of the search committee and ask politely if she would kindly share an update on where they're at with their search. If you find out anything, let us know. :)

Major Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of Drama is in the Department of Drama and reports to the Dean of Arts and Languages. The applicant will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research in Asian performance and theatre traditions, and a cognate interest in the comparative study of theatre and performance across cultures, particularly between Asia and the Americas, or on other issues related to the Asian diaspora and globalization. Asian will be broadly defined for this search as the study of modern performance cultures linked to the pre-modern and post-modern practices of continental Asia, South or South-east Asia, Korea or Japan. We are interested in scholars who approach theatre and performance studies from an interdisciplinary perspective through historically and theoretically grounded research in cultural studies, critical race and/or ethnic studies, and/or the visual arts, music, and dance.

A consortium of three research universities—Brown, Northwestern, and Stanford—seeks to appoint Mellon Postdoctoral Fellows in Dance Studies for the academic year 2014-15. Muhlenberg College - ASIANetwork-Luce 2014-15 Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow

Muhlenberg College, with the support of the ASIANetwork-Luce Teaching Fellow Program, invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship joint appointment in Asian Traditions and Theatre and Dance to start in August 2014.  Applicants should demonstrate an excellent ability to teach scholarly courses on Asian performance.  We welcome applicants with interdisciplinary perspectives, and are particularly interested in those who can teach comparatively across geographic regions of Asia.  Responsibilities will include three courses over the academic year, a public lecture, and student advising in independent research. Course offerings may include upper level courses in particular traditions of Asian performance, as well as introductory courses in Asian culture more broadly. The successful candidate must combine teaching excellence with a strong commitment to Muhlenberg's General Education Curriculum, including Diversity and Global Engagement, along with an intellectually compelling research agenda.  The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor in Muhlenberg’s nationally-recognized theatre program during the fellowship year. The Hodder Fellowship will be given to writers and non-literary artists of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the 2014-2015 academic year. Potential Hodder Fellows are writers, composers, choreographers, visual artists, performance artists, or other kinds of artists or humanists who have "much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts"; they are selected more "for promise than for performance." Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published a first book or have similar achievements in their own fields; the Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with the "studious leisure" to undertake significant new work. Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton, but no formal teaching is involved. A $75,000 stipend is provided. Fellowships are not intended to fund work leading to an advanced degree. Princeton University invites applications for the Princeton Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts. Princeton Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts, funded in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will be awarded to artists whose achievements have been recognized as demonstrating extraordinary promise in any area of artistic practice and teaching. Applicants should be early career poets, novelists, choreographers, playwrights, designers, performers, directors, and performance artists -- this list is not meant to be exhaustive -- who would find it beneficial to spend two years working in an artistically vibrant university community.

Because our inaugural fellows are in the fields of Music and Visual Arts, this year we will only be accepting applications for Theater, Creative Writing, and Dance.

Fellowships are for two 10-month academic years. Fellows will be in residence for academic years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 at Princeton, interacting with our students, faculty and staff as part of the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Department of Music. The normal work assignment will be to teach one course each semester subject to approval by the Dean of the Faculty, but fellows may be asked to take on an artistic assignment in lieu of a class, such as directing a play or creating a dance with students. Although the teaching load is light, our expectation is that Fellows will be full and active members of our community, committed to frequent and engaged interactions with students during the academic year. While Fellows need not reside in Princeton, they will be required to spend a significant part of the week on campus. This Fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to a Ph.D. or any other advanced degree. Holders of Ph.D. degrees from Princeton are not eligible to apply.

The Division of Performing Arts at the University of New Haven invites applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Theater beginning Fall 2014.

University of New Haven’s Theater Program is dynamic and growing, and offers a B.A. in Theater Arts with specific concentrations in Performance, Design, and Arts Administration. Typically, the program produces 4-5 diverse productions per year, which might include: student-organized new play festivals, devised work, musical theater, and contemporary and classical scripted work. The program is also active in the community and participates in KCACTF.

The ideal candidate is a theater generalist with significant directing experience, a strong teaching record, a commitment to collaboration, and an interest in integrating theory and practice. Candidates should possess a terminal degree in the field (MFA, DFA, Ph.D.) ABD candidates are welcome to apply. Administrative experience is desirable, as is familiarity with production/performance areas in addition to directing. Areas of scholarly and practice-based specialization are open, though the program is particularly interested in: interdisciplinary work, theater for social change, collaborative practice.

The position will be responsible for teaching a range of courses, which might include: Introduction to Theater, Theater for Community Impact, Directing, Theater History sections, with potential for special topics courses in the candidate’s area of interest. Additionally, this position will direct 1-2 productions a year and assist in the coordination of season production and major program activities.

Re: ArtSEARCH. Are there really no academic jobs listed yet there, or is something wrong with my search parameters. I usually just type in "theatre" and pull down the Education tab. Currenly the latest post is from early July.

• I would just do a simple search with no parameters and sort through the recent listings yourself. Sometimes teaching jobs are not accurately categorized by ArtSearch in the Education section. Also, keep in mind we are in that transitional period where there are fewer current listings because hiring is (hopefully) done for the 2013-14 academic year and tenure-track listings for 2014-15 will become more frequent as faculty (and consequently, search committees) return to campus and begin their powwows. 

ARTSEARCH seems to now have "Spotlight Listings" that appear first, which is what you might be looking at. If you scroll down further you should see the actual ARTSEARCH search results

Has anyone else noticed that schools are taking much longer to make decisions this year, and that they are not doing a very good job of notifying candidates about hiring decisions in a timely manner?
