Count[]
RE: the "COUNT" section: what is this exactly? Are we categorizing the positions, or the people that are following the wiki? MEB

- It is supposed to be the number of people following the wiki (probably the real number is more, but the count is those who chose to identify themselves). Una74 (talk) 15:16, August 31, 2012 (UTC)
Failed Searches?[]
Can someone tell me what kind of situations this can encompass, especially in this job market? Is it really that they can't find anyone that meets the requirements of the job? Did they offer the job to their top candidate, who took another position, and they felt they couldn't re-tool the searc? Is it mainly cultural-they are looking for a very specific kind of personality? Is it funding? Is it a dysfunctional department? Is it that the job description doesn't really describe what they are looking for? And is there anyway to tell the difference?
- I think most of the time searches fail because the first-choice candidate declines for one reason or another (another job, choosing to stay at current institution, etc.), and the dept. can't agree on one of the runners-up. Failed searches can be a sign of dept. dysfunction, but not always (sometimes, runners up turn out to be not great fits after all or have other options themselves). If a dept. can't even agree on a first choice, I'd say that's usually a good sign of dysfunction. In my experience, complex internal department politics are often the number one reason contributing to a failed search. I'm sure, though, others will have varying views on this topic.
TOC[]
The contents are now only the major divisions. This makes it impossible to see at a glance (in the ToC) who has scheduled MLA interviews and who hasn't. I think it should go back to listing individual schoools.
[Reposting from several other pages]: The issue seems to be that users who are not logged into the site cannot see the Contents formatted with Heading 3. I have contacted Wikia about this issue (which seems to have been introduced with yesterday's site update) and have been informed that this is an unintentional glitch that they are working on fixing. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon, but it is a larger interface issue that I do not control (beyond informing tech support about it). In the meantime, if you want to see the former "Contents" format, create a user log-in at this link http://academicjobs.wikia.com/wiki/Special:UserSignup and you should be able to see it. Alternatively, if someone wants to go through and reformat all of the listed schools in Header 2, that will also take care of the problem more quickly (I am already beginning to work through some pages, but there are a lot, so I could use some help!). Thanks for your patience. Una74 (talk) 22:50, November 29, 2012 (UTC)
