Amherst College (MA) - TT Asst. Professor of Russian

Assistant Professor of Russian The Amherst College Department of Russian invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor to begin on July 1, 2017. We are looking for a broadly-trained, theoretically-engaged scholar of Russian literature and culture. In addition to having a well-articulated research plan, the successful candidate will be committed to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal-arts context.

Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, race, and nationality. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant recipients; 44 percent of our students are domestic students of color; and ten percent of our students are international students. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Our new colleague will teach two courses per semester, including all levels of Russian language and various aspects of Russia’s cultural legacy; contribute to the core curriculum of the department and the College’s liberal-arts curriculum; and advise undergraduate honors theses. Amherst College is home to an internationally-renowned research institution, the Amherst Center for Russian Culture, and the department’s faculty regularly draws on its collections for teaching and research. Bryn Mawr College (PA) - TT Asst. Professor - Russian

The Department of Russian at Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a full-time, beginning tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Russian language, literature, and culture, with a specialization in nineteenth-century Russian literature to start August 1, 2017. College of William and Mary (VA) - TT Assistant Professor in European and Russian/Post-Soviet Studies

The Programs in European Studies and Russian/Post-Soviet Studies at the College of William and Mary seek applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, beginning in August 2017.

We are two strong, interdisciplinary area studies programs at one of the best small public universities in the United States, and we are seeking a colleague with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

Candidates from all disciplines in the social sciences and humanities with appropriate expertise will be considered, pending department approval. The appointment will be jointly held in the Global Studies Program and in a host department appropriate for the candidate’s discipline. Research and teaching expertise in fields such as state socialism, the First and/or Second World Wars, post-socialist societies, migration, regionalism, and identity politics are particularly welcome.

Kenyon College (OH) - TT Asst. Professor of Russian

Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track position in Russian at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2017.

A Ph.D. in hand and native or near-native proficiency in Russian and English are required. Specialization is open, but an ability to teach all levels of Russian language, literature, and culture courses is expected. Rutgers University (NJ) - TT Assistant Professor position in Russian Literature

The Department of Germanic, Russian, and East European Languages and Literatures at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick), is pleased to invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Russian Literature (tenure-track), effective September 1, 2017. We seek a specialist in nineteenth-century Russian literature and culture with an innovative research agenda and strong teaching record. Preferred secondary areas of expertise are cinema studies, poetry (all periods), and post-Soviet culture. Smith College (MA) - TT Assistant Professor in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies

The Program in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies at Smith College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2017. We seek a broadly trained, energetic scholar of modern and contemporary Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian cultures with a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research. St. Olaf College (MN) - TT Asst. Professor - Russian

The Russian Language and Area Studies Department at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) tenure-track position in Russian language at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2017. Teaching load is six courses with three courses in the fall semester and three courses in the spring semester. This position will teach courses from beginning through advanced culture-centered language courses including our fourth-year language capstone course. Rice University (TX) - Lecturer in Russian

Rice University's Center for Languages & Intercultural Communication invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Russian.

This is a two-year appointment to begin 1 July 2017. Upon successful competence and performance reviews, the appointee can be offered additional contracts.

Requirements: M.A., native or near-native ability in Russian, training in second language pedagogy, experience teaching at the U.S. university level, and demonstrated ability to develop innovative second language curricula. Experience with Study Abroad program development/implementation, competence to teach another language, and Ph.D. degree would be beneficial.

Stetson University (FL) - Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian (begin Jan. 2017)

Stetson University seeks a dynamic colleague trained in Russian language pedagogy for a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures beginning January 2017. This is a three-semester appointment. The successful candidate will be devoted to teaching undergraduate students and will have a demonstrated ability to teach Russian language courses at all levels.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Russian Language or a related field. Candidates with all course requirements for the Ph.D. completed will be considered. Native or near-native fluency in Russian is required. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to liberal learning at an undergraduate institution and will show demonstrated excellence in teaching using a variety of methodologies, including teaching through blended learning technologies. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students from under-represented groups.

Responsibilities: The teaching load is four undergraduate courses per fall and spring semester. Qualified candidates are expected to teach Russian language from the introductory to advanced levels, with the possibility of courses in the candidate’s research field(s). The ideal candidate will join a robust program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies and will be expected to participate in co-curricular programming (http://www.stetson.edu/sprees). This position also includes supervision of the Language Commons, a study and tutoring facility connected with the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Salary: Salary is competitive.

University of California, Los Angeles (CA) - Lecturer - Polish

Description: The Department of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for the position of Polish language instructor, beginning Fall 2017. This is a half-time, one-year position as Lecturer that includes health benefits, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon a satisfactory performance review and approval of the Dean. Initial teaching load is one three-quarter sequence of Intermediate Polish and one additional course at the discretion of the department.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative instructor who has demonstrated experience in teaching different levels of Polish language, including both non-heritage and heritage speakers, as well as a familiarity with contemporary instructional technologies. Complete fluency in Polish and English is required, as is an intimate knowledge of Polish culture. The ideal candidate should hold at least an M.A. Knowledge of another Slavic language a plus.

To promote its bourgeoning Russian Studies program, the Department of German and Russian at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for the position of Assistant Professional Specialist of Russian on the basis of a one-year, renewable contract. This is intended to be a career position with continued renewal going forward; it carries no research expectation and is primarily focused upon teaching.

The ideal candidate will have the Ph.D. in hand, and possess extensive teaching experience at various levels of the undergraduate curriculum, as well as an interest in the scholarship of pedagogy. The typical teaching load will be four courses per semester, though this may be modified by significant service to the department. We are seeking not only a master teacher, but a program builder with creative ideas about program promotion, extra-curricular programming, study abroad, and student recruitment.

University of Virginia (VA) - Three-Year Lecturer - Slavic Language and Lit.

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Virginia invites applications for the position of Director of the Language Program. This appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer, with a three-year renewable term. The level of Lecturer will be determined at the time of hire. The director will have central responsibility for training and oversight of Teaching Assistants (currently in the first through third years) and teaching a regular course on methods of language pedagogy. Teaching assignments may include Russian language courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, including advanced conversation. Other duties will include oversight of the Russian House and the department's program of cultural activities (Russian tea and a film series), placement and proficiency testing, and program assessment. Scholarly publication is not required or expected. Compensation will take the form of full-time salary with full-time benefits.

A Ph.D. in Slavic or a related field is required by the appointment start date, as is near-native fluency or better in Russian and English. Teaching experience at the university level in the United States or Canada is preferred.

Wellesley College (MA) - Visiting Lecturer, Russian

The Wellesley College Department of Russian (http://www.wellesley.edu/russian) announces a search for a one-year, full-time leave replacement with a specialty in Russian literature, culture, and language. The appointment will be for the 2017-18 academic year. The successful candidate will teach at least four courses in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian literature and culture (both in translation and in Russian), and in Russian language; and possibly up to one Russia-oriented course in the Writing Program. Ability to teach writing-intensive courses, thematically organized courses, and Russian film especially welcome. Native or near-native fluency in English and Russian required. The minimum educational requirement for this position is a PhD (ABD considered). Excellent salary and full benefits package.
