American University of Beirut (Lebanon) - Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition

The Department of English at the American University of Beirut is seeking to fill a position of Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition, to begin August 15, 2016.

Research focus is open within the field. We especially encourage applications from candidates engaged in multilingual, cross-cultural, or regionally relevant research (such as Arabic, Middle-Eastern, or Islamic rhetorics; transnational or comparative rhetoric; translation and rhetoric; or translingual pedagogies), and/or candidates with a command of one or more regional languages (e.g., Arabic, Persian, Turkish). The new hire will contribute to development of an MA in Rhetoric and Composition, and to the administration and further development of the composition program and the writing center, which also offers support for a writing in the disciplines initiative. The English & Foreign Languages Department in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin fall 2016. Candidates with specializations in the history and theory of rhetoric and a strong interest in writing in the disciplines and/or digital media are especially encouraged to apply.

The Position: The faculty member will teach undergraduate classes in rhetoric, composition, and literacy, as well as graduate seminars in histories and theories of rhetoric, writing in the disciplines, and pedagogy. The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and a commitment to service to the university. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach existing courses as well as to develop new courses in line with his or her teaching, research, and service interests. Interests that address global concerns, new media, and/or a commitment to diversity in higher education will be particularly noted.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition (or closely related field) from an accredited university by no later than September 1, 2016. Evidence of effective college or university teaching experience. Evidence of potential to build a strong record of scholarly publication. Evidence of potential to direct a large writing program.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications: Record of scholarly publication; Experience in writing program administration, including writing-center experience; Familiarity with writing in the disciplines, literacy studies, cross-cultural rhetoric, and/or new media.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Academic Programs, the Director of Writing Across the Disciplines serves in a leadership role as a writing program administrator that oversees the development, management, and supervision of writing at the upper division and undergraduate level. Coordinates the development of writing for graduate and professional programs with departments at CSUF. Initiates faculty development programs to improve writing pedagogy. Works with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and General Education, the Director of Graduate Studies, and the English Department Chair, as well as other writing-related personnel as needed to develop and monitor a culture of writing at CSUF. Collaborates with faculty and other campus writing program administrators to facilitate delivery, assessment, and effective use of writing resources, including professional development of writing instructors. Works with the University Writing Board, the General Education Committee, the University Curriculum Committee, and the Graduate Education Committee to help students achieve university-wide aims for upper division writing. Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must have a PhD from an accredited university, appropriate for the department of appointment; expertise in rhetoric, composition, or a relevant field; and experience administrating a writing program or WAC program. Record of scholarly activity, involving students whenever possible. Duties: The Director of Writing Across the Curriculum will provide leadership for WAC and the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR), have experience creating and leading faculty development workshops and programs appropriate for a variety of disciplines, have commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, have knowledge of or experience with implementing writing in the disciplines, and have a demonstrable record of administrative experience and scholarship.

Responsibilities include developing and assessing a campus-wide Writing Across the Curriculum program; providing faculty support and development for writing in the major courses; developing online and print resources on writing for faculty and students; leading campus workshops concerning student writing; and participating in scholarly activities and service to the University. Georgia Southern University (GA) - TT Asst. Professor of Writing and Linguistics spec. Technical and Professional Writing

The Department of Writing and Linguistics in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Writing and Linguistics with a specialization in Technical and Professional Writing. Georgia Southern University, classified as a doctoral/research institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, is a member of the University System of Georgia. As the largest and most comprehensive research institution in southeast Georgia, the University is a residential campus of more than 20,500 students representing 48 states and 89 nations.

Founded in 1906, Georgia Southern lays claim to being the most beautiful campus in the state. Comprising more than 900 acres, the University grounds are an arboretum-like treasure featuring gently rolling lawns, scenic ponds, and soaring pines. Located in Statesboro, a safe Main Street community of approximately 30,000 residents not far from Savannah and Hilton Head Island, Georgia Southern provides the benefits of a major university with the feeling of a smaller college.

Within this setting, the Department of Writing and Linguistics houses an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree that combines theoretical knowledge of language usage and structure with practical writing skills in multiple genres. Students who major in Writing and Linguistics take coursework in four areas-Professional and Technical Writing, Creative Writing, Linguistics, and Writing Studies. In addition, Technical Writing is offered as a minor, as a second discipline for Information Technology students, and as a concentration for the Online Bachelor of General Studies. The Department houses First-Year Writing and is active in the profession by hosting a site of the National Writing Project, as well as national and regional professional conferences.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the Assistant Professor of Professional and Technical Writing requires teaching (both online and face-to-face classes), research, and service. The ideal candidate will contribute to the growth and development of the Professional and Technical Writing area and the online Bachelor of General Studies program, along with other Department programs and activities (which may include First-Year Writing). The position is a ten-month tenure-track appointment teaching three courses per term (six courses per year), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Summer teaching is optional but available.

Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in a field relevant and suitable to the Department of Writing and Linguistics-either Technical, Professional, or Scientific Writing; Rhetoric and Composition; or a closely-related field. The degree must be in hand by August 1, 2016. Scholarly agenda in the area of Technical, Professional, or Scientific Writing, or a closely-related field. At least one year of part-time college-level teaching experience (graduate assistant teaching experience is permissible). Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level, or two or more years of college-level teaching. Experience teaching Professional and Technical Writing courses. Peer-reviewed publications in Technical, Professional, or Scientific Writing, or other relevant fields. Experience developing and teaching online courses and programs. Working knowledge of professionally relevant tools and technologies. Interest or experience in writing grants or relevant consulting. Relevant industry and professional experience.

Position Description: Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the Assistant Professor of Writing and Linguistics requires teaching, research, and service. The English Department offers general education courses in composition and literature, as well as courses in developmental reading and writing, and in English as a second language. The department is dedicated to advancing student success and encourages its faculty to become involved in innovative educational approaches, including utilizing technology to enhance student achievement and promoting learning communities. Faculty members work collaboratively with other departments to sponsor an annual Literary Arts Festival, roundtable discussions, and other enrichment activities. A new Bachelor of Science in Professional and Technical Writing interdisciplinary degree program is beginning in Spring 2015.

Ph.D. required. We seek an individual who demonstrates excellence as an instructor and whose research interest and/or graduate training is in rhetoric and argumentation. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees from communication programs.

The successful candidate will teach our advanced rhetorical criticism senior seminar, a classical rhetoric course, a public speaking course, and topic driven courses in Rhetoric as well as courses that contribute to Whitman College's general education requirements. The standard annual teaching load is five courses. As a whole, we seek a teacher-scholar to support our existing strengths in Rhetoric Studies and would particularly welcome applications from those working in critical/cultural studies, global rhetoric(s), public memory studies, visual rhetoric, or race, class, gender, or queer rhetoric(s). The College provides a generous sabbatical leave program and professional development support for both research and teaching.

+Research focus is open within the field.
