Aarhus University (DK) - Associate Professorship in the Study of Religion

The School of Culture and Society invites applications for an associate professorship in the study of religion. The associate professorship is a permanent position which begins on 01.01.2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position: We are seeking an innovative and dedicated candidate who will contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. The position focuses on the interdisciplinary psychology of religion and the new experimental science of religion. The future associate professor is expected to help further the integration of the interdisciplinary psychology of religion within the study of religion at the Department of the Study of Religion through teaching and research at the highest international level. She or he will be situated within the department’s Religion, Cognition and Culture Research Unit.

Research: The School of Culture and Society emphasises high-quality research and attaches great importance to interdisciplinary collaboration, participation in collective research projects, and the ability to attract external research funding.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong profile and track record in the study of religion, as well as experimental expertise in psychology, neurocognition and the cognitive science of religion.

We are particularly interested in a candidate whose training and research integrates the above-mentioned fields. The associate professor will be expected to develop collaborative research initiatives locally and internationally.

Chicago Theological Seminary (IL) - Practical Theology

Chicago Theological Seminary invites applications for a full-time, three-year term (with potential for conversion to tenure-track) position in Practical Theology to begin July 1, 2016. We have special interests in Homiletics, Pastoral Care, and Psychology and Religion. Claremont Graduate University (CA) - American Religions

The Religion Department at Claremont Graduate University invites applications for a tenure-track, advanced assistant or associate professor of American religions, with a preferred specialization in African American and/or Latino/a religion in North America. Candidates should be primarily prepared to teach and advise M.A. and Ph.D. students in the department’s program in American religions, while the ideal candidate will also contribute to the department’s program in comparative scripture. Special preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach a graduate-level religious studies theory and method course. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in religious studies or related fields, as well as a proven track record and future trajectory of scholarly achievement. The appointment is scheduled to commence in Fall 2016.

Creighton University (NE) - Theology

Creighton University Department of Theology seeks a candidate who wishes to teach (primarily undergraduates and some graduates) at a Jesuit-Catholic University in a department committed to the Christian theological traditions. For this position, we seek a candidate in the area of Faith and Culture. The applicant should be trained in Christian theology and may specialize in any area that addresses Faith and Culture, including (but not limited to) comparative theology, American religion, science and religion, or Christianity and modern atheism. The individual selected will teach various courses in theology including a required freshman introductory theology course. There is an expectation of an active research agenda and service to the Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the University. Lawrence University (WI) - Asian Religions

Assistant Professor, Department of Religious Studies

Lawrence University, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college, seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track position to begin September 1, 2016. We seek a person to teach courses in Asian religious traditions. The area of specialty is open, but the successful applicant will be able to teach upper and lower level courses in Hinduism or Buddhism. A specialization in a secondary tradition such as Sikhism, Jainism or Daoism is acceptable, so long as the applicant is comfortable teaching upper and lower level courses in either Hinduism or Buddhism. The candidate should demonstrate knowledge of the historical texts of the tradition, but also be able to articulate a theoretical perspective that would allow students to do comparative work. Contributions to Lawrence’s Freshman Studies program and one of our interdisciplinary programs are expected. We are looking for a candidate who brings passion to teaching in a liberal arts setting and who will find innovative ways to communicate the subject matter with students. Oregon State University (OR) - Buddhist Studies (Asian Buddhism)

The School of History, Philosophy, and Religion invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE). 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

This position in Buddhist Studies (Asian Buddhism) has teaching responsibilities for five courses per academic year. The position will teach introductory and upper-level courses on Buddhist Studies and more broadly on Asian religion and philosophy and should have the ability to teach an introductory course on world religions. Rockhurst University (MO) - Religious Studies

Saint Mary's College of California (CA) - Theology and Religious Studies

Saint Marys College of California invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theology & Religious Studies. We seek a theologian and teacher in the tradition of the Second Vatican Council. There are two options for the preferred area of specialization. The first is Theological Anthropology, especially as it relates to contemporary areas of concern, e.g., gender and sexuality, human dignity and justice. San Diego State University (CA) - Religion and Society

San Diego State University's Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Religion and Society with a specialization in the social scientific study of religion (anthropology of religion, or sociology of religion) to begin fall semester 2016. The faculty member will bring the methods and tools of the social sciences to researching the contemporary nexus between religion and social issues. We seek a specialist in an area outside the USA, including, but not limited to, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, or India. The candidate must be trained in the social scientific study of religion and should demonstrate expertise in particular areas of study and in specific religious communities. Areas of specialization could include racial ideology, gender and equality, environmental theology, or other possibilities, but the primary requirement is expertise in social science methods. The successful candidate will combine historical and language expertise with modern social theory using their object of study as an example of wider, cross-cultural social forces and issues. Engagement with issues of methodology in the academic study of religion is essential. The chosen candidate will show promise to teach lower, upper, and cross-listed division courses, and produce a well-planned research/scholarship agenda whose interests will enhance existing strengths within a department known for its interdisciplinary and comparative approaches, will participate in professional organizations, collaborate with other departments, serve the larger San Diego community, and complement the mission and collegiality of the department. Qualifications include demonstrated skills in teaching undergraduates. Candidates must possess a strong commitment to teaching excellence and demonstrate promise for continuing research and publication. Seattle Pacific University (WA) - Theological Studies

Position: Assistant Professor of Theological Studies

Appointment: Regular nine-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning September 1, 2016. Subject to funding.

Responsibilities: Teaching undergraduate and seminary courses in a variety of theological topics will be expected, including women in Christianity. Undergrad courses will include general curriculum offerings (University Foundations) in Christian formation and theology as well as specialized courses in the Christian Theology major and minors. Seminary courses would include survey courses in historical theology and doctrine. A promising research trajectory is a requirement. Service to the School of Theology, University, and wider publics will be expected alongside student mentoring and advisement.

Requirements: Qualifications: Ph.D. or Th.D. in a theological discipline (historical, doctrinal, and/or constructive). The candidate must be committed to classroom instruction, student mentoring, and discipleship in a Christian liberal arts setting. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in gender and theology. Candidates broadly conversant with contextual, global, and historical theology will be preferred. The successful candidate will be sympathetic to the Wesleyan Holiness tradition and committed to the way Seattle Pacific seeks to articulate and embody the Christian faith (see the University Statement of Faith). As a collegium, the School of Theology seeks to be faithful to the gospel so as to meet the needs of both church and world. Stanford University (CA) - South Asian Studies (spec. Hinduism / Indian Religion)

Stanford University invites applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level or a tenured position at the Associate Professor level in South Asian Studies to begin in the academic year 2016-17.

The scholar appointed will be based in an academic department but is also expected to make contributions to the interdisciplinary study of South Asia across the university. The appointment will be in one of the following departments in the School of Humanities and Sciences:

Art and Art History (with a preference for a scholar of South Asian Film)

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in Ancient Judaism (2nd century BCE-the Rise of Islam) with the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies beginning August 2016.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Religious Studies. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2016. Possess a strong command of rabbinic literature and engage with core genres of the traditional Jewish canon, but may focus on an era from late antiquity through the Rise of Islam. Interested in addressing the intellectual and religious history of ancient Judaism as well as its intersections with other religious and intellectual traditions of late antiquity. Possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and show potential for a productive scholarly program.

Responsibilities: Faculty assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning the second year the workload reverts back to the standard instructional workload of seven to eight (7-8) course units. Teach both introductory and specialized courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Introduction to Judaism, Introduction to the Study of Religion and Judaism, Christianity and Islam, as well as upper level undergraduate courses. Teach the core graduate survey in Rabbinic History and Literature as well as graduate seminars. The Philosophy and Religious Studies Department in conjunction with the graduate program in Jewish Studies will determine the mix of undergraduate and graduate courses, advising duties and service.

The Center on Religion and Chinese Society (CRCS) is seeking a Program Manager for the Mapping Chinese Spiritual Capital Project, a three-year initiative to expand the social scientific study of religion in China. We will pursue three interrelated goals: mapping the religious landscape and the changing religious markets in China; assessing spiritual capital in the emerging civil society; and nourishing the growing field through publishing first-rate research in a new journal, the Review of Religion and Chinese Society.

The Program Manager will coordinate international conferences that will bring together committee members, advisors, and invited scholars in the United States, Europe, and China. University of Hong Kong (HK) Non-TT Professor in the Centre of Buddhist Studies (2 yr. fixed term - renewable)
