Given these opportunities and challenges, applicants must address in their letters of application their vision of innovative approaches to teaching historical methods of research, interpretation, and writing in an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and inquiry-based classroom.

  • ABD will be considered if Phd is in hand by 7 Aug. 2017, otherwise appointment will be at Lecturer level.

  • Ability to teach Florida history a plus
  • Candidate must have active scholarship agenda and be committed to service

  • Apply online at: https://jobs.fgcu.edu/postings/3287 Required Application Documents: Cover Letter, Transcripts, Curriculum Vitae, List of 5 Professional References (with relationship of each), Statement of experience working with students in research or scholarship as it fits discipline, Statement of Teaching Philosophy.
  • Deadline: 15 Nov. 2016
  • Q: -What is the "Statement of experience with students in research or scholarship as it fits discipline"
  • A: This is something that the institution requires of all candidates, regardless of what the specific search is. It is supposed to underline FGCU's commitment to undergraduate research but probably just confuses people. For history positions, you would normally write about the way in which you mentor students in historical research, which could include both in class and outside the classroom experiences. It's also fine to talk about what you *would* do at FGCU, not just what you have done (especially if you are ABD, no-one expects you to have worked with a lot of students independently.) It really doesn't have to be long - a couple of paragraphs is fine
