Brock University (CAN) - TT Asst. Professor - Digital Prototyping[]

The Centre for Digital Humanities, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a probationary tenure-track position in Digital Prototyping at the rank of Assistant Professor. Scholars whose work intersects with digital prototyping (e.g., computer programming, human-computer interaction, industrial design, and/or locative media) connected to questions in the humanities are encouraged to apply. A demonstrated skillset related to entrepreneurship, leadership, and/or project management is also essential. The position is subject to final budgetary approval. It will begin July 1, 2016.

The Centre for Digital Humanities (CDH) offers an undergraduate program in Interactive Arts and Science (IASC) that supports learning in a wide range of practices and disciplines informed by human-computer interaction, visualization, and simulation. The IASC programs (BA, BA Honours, Combined Major, and Minor) are partnered with a variety of academic units within and outside the Faculty of Humanities, including the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. Faculty in the CDH also have the opportunity to contribute to Brock's Interdisciplinary Humanities PhD program which includes a specialization in Digital Humanities. In September, 2016, the CDH, in partnership with the Department of Computer Science, will launch the GAME program in collaboration with Niagara College.

The CDH is a founding partner of Innovate Niagara and the Generator at One, the region’s interactive media incubator and production facility where IASC students regularly intern and are mentored by industry professionals. The CDH is also partnered with BioLinc, a business incubator facility housed on the Brock campus.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a Humanities scholar whose body of work advances the field of digital prototyping with original thinking and impact. Such work may take the form of published writings, innovative forms of scholarship, research/creation, critically informed design, curriculum, and/or community engagement. Given the emergent nature of interactive media, the successful applicant should expect to provide leadership through transformative research and teaching as well as informed curriculum development and engagement with industry and community partners. In addition, applicants should have an exemplary teaching record that demonstrates a commitment to progressive learner-centred pedagogy. Applicants are expected to hold a PhD or have a doctoral defence date set.

The successful candidate will teach four half courses per academic year and will contribute to a vibrant culture of research and creation. Courses at the undergraduate level may include critical theory and analysis in topic areas related to digital prototyping, as well as introductory courses related to interactive media and digital scholarship more generally.

The English Department at Emmanuel College offers three Majors: Communication & Media Studies, Literature, and Writing & Literature. The Communication & Media Studies Major at Emmanuel College has an interdisciplinary focus rooted in the Liberal Arts, emphasizing critical media literacy, media and gender studies as well as intercultural and applied communication.

Lakehead University invites applications for a SSHRC Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in New Media and Literary Culture. All scholars working at the intersection of media studies and literary studies are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in applicants whose research takes account of new media (analog and/or digital) and their implications for literary culture, including but not limited to work in the areas of comparative textual media, electronic literatures, digital poetics, writing machines, emerging textualities, intersections of print and new media culture, digital literary scholarship, new media as literary form, the history and future of reading, book history, and media archaeology. A secondary specialization in Writing and Rhetoric would be an asset. We seek an exceptional scholar with an outstanding record of innovative publication and research, and a demonstrated ability to participate in and foster collaborative research clusters. The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of English at Lakehead’s Thunder Bay campus and will be expected to play an active role in the English Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. It is expected that the successful candidate’s research program will provide research opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary, annual research grant, and a reduced teaching load. An infrastructure start-up grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation may be available based on need. Qualified candidates will have completed a Ph.D. in English, Cultural Studies, Media Studies, or a related field. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at both the undergraduate level (i.e., in a CAH department, in the digital humanities minor) and at the graduate level (i.e., in the Texts and Technology Ph.D. program, in a CAH department). The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved with the Center for Humanities and Digital Research.

A: They are making accommodations for people who use a dossier service like Interfolio for this (where the letters are confidential). The workaround is to use the Interfolio email addresses for your letters in the "References" section of the application where it asks you to list your references. The system will automatically email these addresses and Interfolio will send them the letters of recommendation as normal. However, since the system won't accept incomplete applications, when you get to the "Documents Needed to Apply" section of the application you should upload a document that contains the real email address of each of your references for each "letter of recommendation" slot. This can be as simply formatted as the following: Reference 1 = xxxx@xxx.edu. The School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a two-year appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor of Emerging Media and Communication (EMAC). The EMAC program fosters students' digital literacies with course offerings in critical, social scientific, and creative approaches to new media.

The successful candidate for this position will teach undergraduate and graduate classes in some of the following topics: digital writing, digital culture, networked identities, code and culture, and the history of emergent media. For sample courses, see ATEC 2321, ATEC 2322, and EMAC 6300 at www.utdallas.edu/emac/academics . Candidates should have a PhD in new media studies, cultural studies, or a related field. We welcome a variety of specialties, including critical race, gender, sexuality, and disability studies; transnational and global media studies; algorithmic culture; critical software studies; and media history. Experience in digital pedagogy is required; training in composition pedagogy is desirable.

Faculty members teaching in the Department of Focused Inquiry participate in shared curricula, with the expectation that students across all sections of a course achieve similar learning objectives. ale-NUS College, a collaboration between the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Yale University, is an autonomous undergraduate college located on the NUS campus. Drawing on active modes of learning associated with Western liberal arts education models, we introduce our students to the diverse intellectual traditions and cultures of Asia and the world.

The recently inaugurated Yale-NUS campus contains an “Arts Block” with state of the art fabrication studios, and audio visual and recording facilities which are used for enhancing the curriculum and facilitating faculty and student- generated projects.

The position of Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in New Media includes responsibilities for developing and teaching courses with a focus on sound, acoustics and recording in an interdisciplinary context. The ideal candidate will be a new media practitioner with a focus on sound. Leadership potential with a national or international reputation, a demonstrated capacity for creative work of a high order, and a vision for expanding the role of media in curriculum, pedagogy and student-led activities is a must. Preference will be given to candidates with a M.F.A. or related academic credentials.

Expertise in areas such as collaborative, or site-specific events, and/or global forms is desirable. Responsibilities may also include advising and mentoring students, directing student projects, directing the operations of the physical equipment and facilities, and creating partnerships with relevant external and regional academic and industry practitioners.

Teaching responsibilities could include sound arts, media, acoustics, recording, computing, digital media, or sound for stage and screen. There may be requirements to participate in the Yale-NUS Common Curriculum (http://www.yale-nus.edu.sg/curriculum/common-curriculum/), supervise final year capstone projects, and/or perform college service within a liberal arts environment.

Required: A vision for the role of New Media (Sound Arts/Sonic Arts) in a liberal arts college. An interdisciplinary approach to new media in education. Experience in college-level teaching and curriculum development.

Appointment and Salary: One-year term from 1 July 2016 – 30 June, 2017. Salary and benefits are competitive at an international level.
