Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of English. Founded in 1900, Coppin is an urban, residential, historically black university offering 28 undergraduate majors, 12 graduate majors, and 8 certificate programs; nearly 4,000 students are enrolled in day, evening, on-line, and weekend undergraduate and graduate courses.

Summary: We seek a colleague whose focus is on Digital Media but who may come from a diverse range of disciplines, including humanities, communications, and art. Specializations could include digital rhetoric, new media design & aesthetics, digital audio/video, digital content management, or digital narratives & design. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate not only a critical perspective on new media but some engagement with content production as well. A strong commitment to teaching introductory and advanced courses in the major is required for any professor in the department. The candidate we select for the position will contribute to the English major and to the general education mission of the college and will be asked to provide leadership in the development of the new Media Arts & Communications programs. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses at all levels, conducting student advisement, and serving on departmental, college, and university-wide committees.

A nine-month, tenure-track
 1.0 FTE position as an Assistant Professor of English specializing in Book Publishing/Digital Humanities to begin September 2015 for the Department of English. Desirable areas of research expertise include digital humanities with a focus on history of the book and print culture studies.

Teaching responsibilities in the graduate program in Book Publishing include courses in digital publishing that require knowledge of the latest developments in both the book publishing industry and the technologies used in the production of e-books and other forms of digital publishing. 2/2/2 teaching load.

The Assistant Professor will also design and teach new undergraduate and graduate courses in digital humanities for our B.A. and M.A. in English programs, helping the English Department develop significant digital components in our teaching, research, and public programming.

Other responsibilities include advising students in the graduate program in Book Publishing, contributing to the ongoing development of the student-staffed publishing house Ooligan Press, serving on graduate exam

Situated within a vibrant technological university, the English Department seeks a scholar in digital writing and new media production for a tenure-track position. Qualifications:  Ph.D. or MFA in English or related field in Digital Humanities at time of appointment, evidence of outstanding college teaching, including the production of and experience using creative or critical digital projects in the classroom. The University of California, Davis invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in game studies and critical game making. The appointee will join a growing interdisciplinary team of researchers engaged in collaborative work on media ecologies and digital humanities. The Department of English Language and Literature features a strong and flexible undergraduate major and graduate degrees in literature, composition and rhetoric, creative writing, and speech communication. The English Department at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member in Digital Literacies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 24, 2015. This position is funded through the Blugold Commitment, a student-initiated tuition increase designed to enhance the distinctive, high-quality UW-Eau Claire experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition or related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by August 24, 2015. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching writing at the college level, in addition to evidence of strong scholarship or scholarly potential.

Other strong assets include evidence of:

  • Additional areas of scholarly or teaching interests in cultural rhetorics (including race, ethnicity, gender, and/or LGBTQ);
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching first-year writing;

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The successful candidate will teach in the first-year writing program, the Blugold Seminar in Critical Reading and Writing (http://www.uwec.edu/blugoldseminar/index.htm), and assist the Director of Composition with program development. The successful candidate will also teach other courses as appropriate for his/her areas of expertise, including but not limited to advanced writing and graduate courses in the Masters in Writing program. The typical semester load is three courses, equivalent to 11-12 credits. All department members participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students, and engage in service in the department, college, and university.
