Delta State University (MS) - TT Asst. Professor - Modern / Contemporary Literature / Drama

The Division of Languages and Literature at Delta State University is seeking a full-time assistant professor of English. A concentration in modern or contemporary literature is desired. A PhD or MFA in hand is required.

Applicants with MFAs will be considered if they have significant graduate course work in modern or contemporary literature or drama.

Candidates should have the ability to teach general education multi-genre and composition classes, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in a 4-4 teaching load. Significant experience teaching at the college level, experience directing dramatic productions, and experience teaching online are preferences, but not requirements.

Service responsibilities include advising, recruiting, program assessment, program supervision, and serving on departmental and university committees.

Qualifications: The teaching load is a 4-4 in English, thus a minimum of 18 earned graduate hours in English composition and literature is required of all applicants. A PhD or MFA in hand is required.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A PhD or MFA in hand is required. We are seeking a generalist.

Preferred Qualifications: A specialization in modern and contemporary literature, the ability to teach high-quality online classes, and the ability to direct dramatic productions are preferences, but not requirements.

The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in British Literature of the Long Nineteenth Century and British/Global Modernisms. The position begins on July 1, 2017. The Faculty of Foreign Languages, Literature and Linguistics invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Contemporary British and American Literature. The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. in English and specialist knowledge relating to contemporary British and American literature. Research is an important aspect of the position: applicants will therefore be expected to demonstrate an active research programme and promising publication record.

The successful applicant will contribute to historical and theoretical first, second and third year BA courses and MA seminars on British and American Literature, and academic writing about literature. The applicant will also supervise B.A. essays and M.A. and Ph.D. theses in English Literature. The ability to cover introductory teaching in earlier British and American literature would be an advantage. Teaching is in English and therefore near-native proficiency in English is required. Most compulsory courses are taught by distance as well as on-site so the successful applicant must be willing and able to participate in distance teaching, and interest in digital humanities is an advantage.

The position carries full administrative responsibilities and therefore proficiency in Icelandic will be an advantage, though not a prerequisite; a willingness to achieve basic competence in Icelandic in the first two years is expected. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential assets.

This is a tenure-track position with an initial appointment of five years.

The evaluation of academic merits will be in accord with Icelandic Law and Rules for the University of Iceland No. 569/2009.
