The AUSTIN COLLEGE Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Medieval British literature (including Chaucer), with a secondary specialization in its European/global contexts, such as the Crusades, Islamic science and medicine, Judaism, and continental romance. A teaching interest in digital humanities and/or the history of the English language is especially welcome. In addition to upper-level courses in these areas, teaching responsibilities include introductory and intermediate courses in writing and literature, as well as college-wide programs such as first-year seminars and January Terms, with opportunities for involvement in interdisciplinary programs such as gender studies, environmental studies, global science and technology, and public health. The Medieval Studies Program at Binghamton University (State University of New York) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Medieval Studies in the field of Digital Humanities, beginning in Fall 2015. The appointment will be held jointly in Medieval Studies and either the Department of English or the Department of Romance Languages (French). Candidates for this position should have an active research agenda that engages new digital technologies in the study of either the literature(s) of Medieval Britain (with a primary interest in Anglo-Saxon and/or Middle English literature), or Medieval French literature. The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 course load and will participate in the activities of both CEMERS (the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies) and the associated department. This is an affiliated position for Material and Visual Worlds, one of five Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (TAEs) that Binghamton University has identified for growth under the auspices of its SUNY2020 plan. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of this TAE as an area of intensive research and teaching. The search committee will include members of the Material and Visual Worlds steering committee, in addition to representatives of CEMERS, the Dept. of English, Rhetoric, and General Literature, and the Dept. of Romance Languages.
