Amherst College (USA: MA) - Black Atlantic (incl. Colonial Latin America)

  • The Departments of Black Studies and History at Amherst College invite applications for a tenure-line joint appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the History of the Black Atlantic.
  • We seek a historian of colonial Latin America and the Caribbean with a focus on the history of comparative slavery in the Americas. Research and teaching interests might include the following fields: comparative slave systems and the transatlantic slave trade; the impact of imperial expansion on indigenous populations and on pre-colonial Africa; histories of resistance and slave revolts; the slave family, gender, and sexuality; the rise of plantation agriculture and its effects on world trade systems; and abolition and transitions to free labor.
