Central Washington University (WA) - Assistant Professor, Cataloging and Metadata LibrarianEdit

  • The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian may supervise one library paraprofessional or student worker. The librarian will be part of the Collection Development and Management service unit. Cataloging includes original and copy cataloging of all formats, including print and special formats, and cataloging of multiple languages, authority control, database maintenance, and special projects. Metadata includes developing the institutional repository metadata creation and ingest procedures. The incumbent will establish policies; develop procedures; set goals; design and monitor workflow; adopt and implement new technologies; supervise, train and evaluate staff. This position will engage in embedded librarianship/liaison activities, instruction, and reference duties as part of the strategic mission of the Brooks Library. The Librarian participates in appropriate faculty and professional activities, including serving on college and departmental committees, and professional involvement and activity at the state and national levels.

The iSchool faculty is highly interdisciplinary, with backgrounds in information science, computer science, library science, informatics, engineering science, physics, astrophysics, law, psychology, English, medieval studies, philosophy, sociology, and statistics and they hold additional appointments in many other university departments, as well as world-renowned research institutes such as the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.

Successful candidates must be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary academic unit and addressing audiences in professional master’s degree programs, as well as teaching students from undergraduate to Ph.D. levels in an iSchool.
