- I actually have NOT heard anything, but they can go to hell. Who wants $50,000 per year to live in the middle of nowhere and teach a 4/4 load? You can make much better money and probably have a more rewarding career as a prep school teacher. Paying people with PhDs $50,000 per year should be a crime.
- Then go apply for a job as a prep school teacher and be one less applicant we're all competing against. This response bothers me, because it's not like the UW LAX history department set this salary. The UW system has been abused by the state legislature for at least a decade, and many people there are doing the best they can. And as someone who found upward mobility through a Midwestern state school and took classes from amazing faculty who certainly weren't making six figures, and wound up in one of the best PhD programs in the world for what I do, I have a real problem with bashing those schools "in the middle of nowhere." Do we deserve more money? Yes. Are we always going to get it? No. But I'd have taken that job if it had been offered to me, and gladly, because state schools do critically important work, even if they don't pay what the Ivies do.

- Who said anything about Ivies? I did not. I said high school prep teachers make more. I probably didn't get the job because I don't have a PhD from an Ivy. But it's good of you, with your PhD from "one of the best PhD programs in the world" for what you do, to want to give back.
