We are looking for a dedicated candidate who has contributed substantial research in British and Irish history, society and culture; and therefore can contribute to the development of British and Irish history, society and culture as a sub-discipline on the English degree programme as well as taking part in interdisciplinary work with other units at Aarhus University. In addition, it will be considered an advantage if an applicant has a record of research and publication within relevant field(s) of study, as well as experience in the development of collaborative research projects.
The applicant must be 1) Qualified for teaching specialised courses at BA and MA levels in British and Irish history, society and culture, as well as introductory courses in British and Irish history, society and culture; 2) Qualified for teaching survey courses dealing with not only the UK and Ireland but also other Anglophone nations as well as courses devoted to historiography and social and cultural theory
In addition, it will be considered an advantage if an applicant: 1) Can cover a range of topics in British and Irish history, society and culture; 2) Demonstrates evidence of ability to teach courses dealing with not only the UK and Ireland but also other Anglophone nations, as well as historiography and social and cultural theory.
All the teaching on the English programme is in English. However, if applicants are appointed who are not already speakers of Danish, it is a requirement that they acquire sufficient Danish within two years of commencing the appointment to participate fully in the activities of the Department of Aesthetics and Communication. In order to maintain and develop the department's excellent research environment, the person appointed is expected to be present at the department on a daily basis.

Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow position in the Center for European and Mediterranean Studies. The initial appointment will be for one year beginning September 1, 2015, renewable annually for a maximum of three years, pending administrative and budgetary approval.
CEMS/NYU seeks a scholar specializing in one or more of the following fields: comparative European and Mediterranean politics, anthropology, or sociology, or contemporary or recent European and Mediterranean history. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and/or teaching interests concerning the European Mediterranean regions. Additionally, we would value academic interest in the European Union.

- From last time: "Salary actually wasn't too bad ($70K); offer declined for better one elsewhere. Bigger problems had to do with the teaching load/mix; restricted opportunities for grad teaching and mentoring; some depts. were better/worse than others (one dept. didn't even allow its faculty to teach a grad. level class more than once every three years). Worryingly TA support didn't seem to be gauranteed despite the large class sizes, some profs. complained they had to do all the grading for their large surveys classes themselves."

To above: It's anyone's gues what they "meant," but know that committees are often most impressed by candidates who show trajectory of teaching and research agendas, and especially interconnectedness between the two.
It's the document where you demonstrate that you can cover three, preferably four continents, in your teaching and you are willing and able to maintain a world-class research agenda with a subpar library and an eye-watering pay scale.

- I contacted the chair of the search committee about the clumsy wording of the job posting, which suggested that people with "visible" disabilities were encouraged to apply. He replied that Canadian law does not provide for "affirmative action" requirements in hiring. He suggested that the University of British Columbia only hires the most qualified candidates. No one would ever question that UBC only hires the best candidates. However, disabled people - like myself - do not require "affirmative action" laws to secure employment as academics. UBC only hires the best candidates, unless they are Canadian, in which case all other considerations are cast aside.

- If they made their decisions just two weeks after the deadline -- which I highly doubt -- something fishy is going on. Second, my suspicion is that they would not invite mid-level or more senior scholars to the AHA. In short, I'm a bit skeptical about the 10/30 post about AHA interviews.
- This website is full of conspiracy theorists. There is absolutely nothing "fishy" about reaching a decision about a long list of AHA interviews within two weeks of a job closing. I am not on this search committee but having served on many search committees I can tell you that committees read applications as they come in and take notes along the way. They then return to the applications to read letters of reference as they come rolling in. This means that by the time the search closes, most of the files have been read. Committees then usually meet within a week of the files closing to decide on a long list. Then that list is taken to the department for approval. This process might take longer than two weeks, but it might not. Search Committees tend to be very conscientious, tend to know what they are and are not looking for, and then reach decisions within a reasonable amount of time so as not to keep applicants waiting. If you were not notified for an AHA interview, then move on without sour grapes. Your file might be excellent, but not what they are looking for. Reading this site makes me feel that many people posting seem desperate to join the professional academic community and yet hold the members of that community in contempt. You should think better of your future colleagues.

  - While I appreciate and agree with what the above poster has written, I think it is a bit harsh to blame applicants for coming up with conspiracy theories. The academic job market is the most opaque, complicated and undecipherable market in existence. Applicants work for years to get their degrees, work for weeks to put together strong applications, and then don't hear anything -- literally anything -- ever again from a majority of searches. There is no feedback from committees, no education of the applicant pool about what happens in a search, and absolutely no ability to learn anything from the process. Applying for an academic job requires pouring your life out on paper and sending it to a black hole. Search committees, while they may be conscientious, as you point out, are also notoriously bad at communicating with applicants. Given the paucity of information, and the lack of education and knowledge about what, exactly, a search committee does (something that all graduate schools should address, and none do), I think it is unfortunate but natural to have a thriving conspiracy theory market on here. After all, in the absence of any information, bad information becomes the currency of the realm. If applicants hold members of the community in contempt, maybe it's because those members treat applicants like so many cattle, not worthy of the most common of common courtesies.

This inside candidate has a very solid CV, so it's reasonable to assume, given the oddly 'large' number of TT modern Britain/British empire posts this year, the individual in question might end up taking another job, doubt it though as they appear established in Texas.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I've never heard of a due date being moved up like this unless something sketchy was going on - inside candidate?
Maybe they've decided to get a sense of the applicant pool before the HSS meeting, so they can see some of the candidates there, given the environment and tech component?
Maybe they just realized they didn't want to read applications on Thanksgiving.
The most likely explanation is a miscommunication between the Search Committee and the University's HR department, which actually places and pays for the listing.
The requested statement on contribution to diversity was curious. What if a candidate is not a particularly "diverse" individual?
Indeed it was "curious." I know it is early yet, but has any heard anything?
