The Goodnight Family Sustainable Development Department at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2015. We seek broadly trained applicants with expertise in Culture and Environment, whose work is in the environmental humanities and/or the humanistic social sciences and situated in the larger context of sustainable development. The area of specialization is open. Candidates must have a PhD by the beginning of the appointment. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach courses in global and/or postcolonial environmental literature, environmental humanities, and upper-level coursework in the candidate’s area of expertise. Arizona State University - Asst Prof Sustainability and Human well-being (Sept 24)[]

The School of Sustainability at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-track position, at the assistant professor level, in the field of Sustainability and Human Well-being. Many economic, social and ecological factors contribute to human well-being. Nevertheless, most commonly reported indicators of well-being fail to adequately capture its multi-dimensional, dynamic, and system-dependent nature. Sustainability requires that well-being, however measured, be maintained or improved across generations. We invite applications from scholars engaged in conceptual or applied research to improve the conceptualization and measurement of human well-being in the context of sustainability.

Bellvue University - Asst Prof Sustainability Management (Aug 15)[]

Colby-Sawyer College, Asst Prof Environmental Studies (Dec 31)[]

Colby-Sawyer College is looking for a new colleague to join the Environmental Studies Department. We seek an innovative, energetic educator to teach entry level courses such as natural history and introduction to environmental science, as well as upper-level courses such as community-based research project and research methods. Experience teaching online is preferred. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level and a philosophy of education consonant with Colby-Sawyer's programs and mission are required. All full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the college's liberal education program. This is a full time, 3 – 5 year visiting faculty position. A doctoral degree is preferred; a masters degree is required. This position includes teaching, advising, departmental and college service responsibilities, and on-going scholarship. Colorado College, Asst Prof of Environmental Studies (Oct 15)[]

Colorado College seeks a social scientist with expertise in environmental sustainability for a tenure-track position in our interdisciplinary Environmental Program, to begin fall 2015. We are seeking candidates with expertise in human-environment interactions and socio-ecological systems, and who integrate economic perspectives into their teaching and research. Cornell University (NY) - Asst Prof of Environmental Sociology (Oct 1)[]

This position has 50% teaching and 50% research responsibilities. Qualified applicants must have a demonstrated record of scholarship focusing on the societal and spatial dimensions of contemporary environmental change. Expertise in areas such as the interrelationships between development and the environment; sociological examinations of climate change; societal impact on ecosystems, and changing patterns of land use, is particularly welcome. All methodological approaches designed to advance quantitative spatial analysis are welcome, including but not limited to spatial statistics, GIS and multiple methods. Ability to participate in and contribute to inter-disciplinary projects is expected.

Dixie State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. Duke University (NC) - TT Position in Cultural Anthropology - Environmental Humanities (Nov. 10)[]

The Department of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in environmental humanities. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor rank; the successful candidate might be jointly appointed in Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment or another Arts & Sciences department. Theoretical and geographical areas are open, but we are especially interested in scholars working in fields that include: climate change and the anthropocene, non-renewable resources, slow violence, food sovereignty, toxicity and chemical infrastructure, nature and natural disaster. Eckerd College (FL) Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies (Dec. 10)[]

Environmental Studies: Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, tenure-track position, to start September 2015. Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, or a similar interdisciplinary environmental program required. Seven courses per year (3-1-3), including Introduction to Environmental Studies, interdisciplinary lower- and upper-level courses in area of expertise, and senior capstone. Candidates with an interest in international-related issues and teaching experience will be given priority. Teaching and research focus should include topics in wildlife policy and the environmental social sciences, such as ecotourism, management of protected areas, and resource conservation. Participation in an interdisciplinary, values-oriented general education program is required, including a regular rotation in the two-semester freshman program. Furman University (SC), Asst Prof Sustainability Science (Dec 1)[]

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Furman University, a private liberal arts undergraduate institution, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August 2015. A PhD is required at the time of appointment. The ideal candidate will have a background in Sustainability Science or a related field with a sustainability science focus. Applicants should have demonstrated teaching and research expertise focusing on the interactions and feedbacks between environmental and social or human systems related to problems of sustainability. Teaching responsibilities consist of four courses with labs per year, including SUS 120 Principles of Sustainability Science and SUS 241 Social Systems, with the potential opportunity to teach upper level courses in the candidate’s specialty. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will develop an active undergraduate research program and interact closely with the Shi Center for Sustainability.

Hamline University, Environmental Studies Program Director and Director of Sustainability (Oct 27)[]

Hamline is seeking applications from individuals with a Ph.D. in an appropriate field to fill a tenured/tenure-track faculty position as Director of our undergraduate program in Environmental Studies. This individual will also serve as Director of Sustainability. Responsibilities of the Sustainability Director will be to direct a funded, grant-supported project to enhance and expand our undergraduate sustainability curriculum and co-curricular opportunities for undergraduate students. This will include developing faculty training opportunities, funding curriculum development projects and developing and funding opportunities for student participation in sustainability activities. Teaching release and summer salary for the first two years will be provided for the Sustainability Director. Responsibilities of the Director of Environmental Studies will include administration of the undergraduate major in Environmental Studies, leading a revision of the undergraduate major, teaching courses that contribute to the major, maintaining a research program that allows undergraduate student participation, and academic advisement of students.

Illinois Wesleyan University, Asst. Prof Environmental Studies (Oct 15)[]

Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications for an open rank, tenure-line position in Environmental Studies, to begin August 1, 2015.  We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in either a physical science or environmental geography who are eager to assist in building our rapidly growing undergraduate environmental studies program (https://www.iwu.edu/environ/). We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who will teach in and continue to foster the development of a new degree program in Environmental Studies. The candidate should be capable of teaching an introductory course in an interdisciplinary Environmental Studies major, an intermediate level course in Environmental Policy, and intermediate and advanced courses in his or her area of expertise.  Candidates with teaching and research interests in the social sciences or humanities are particularly desirable.  Expertise in environmental law is also desirable, however, we welcome applications from a broad range of specialties in environmental studies.  The successful candidate will have a PhD in Environmental Studies or related field and a promising scholarly record.

Lancaster University (UK), Lectureship in Governance of the Subsurface - Human Geography (Sept. 30)[]

The Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) together with the British Geological Survey (BGS) is advertising a Lectureship in Governance of the Subsurface with a closing date of 30 September 2014. Preference for someone who understands law and legal geography in the area of energy, oil and gas, water, mineral or property. A UK Lectureship is generally equal to an Assistant Professor in the US system.

New York University, Assistant Professor - Environmental Policy[]

The Department of Environmental Studies at New York University is searching for an Assistant Professor of Environmental Policy. Qualified applicants are invited to apply for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Environmental Studies, to begin September 1, 2015, pending administrative and budgetary approval. The newly-formed Department of Environmental Studies and Science within the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences of Pace University invites applications for an anticipated full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September, 2015. The Department houses undergraduate and graduate programs in environmental studies, environmental science and environmental policy. Quest University Canada, Prof (open rank) Quantitative Sciences (Nov 17)[]

About the position: Quest University Canada invites applicants for a full-time continuing faculty position in applied statistics and mathematics, or quantitative sciences. The successful candidate will have an interest in and ability to apply statistical and mathematical tools to a broad array of applied and theoretical problems across disciplines. Rochester Institute of Technology, Asst Prof STS and Environmental Studies (Oct 31)[]

The Science, Technology, and Society Department of the Rochester Institute of Technology seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in the sociocultural context of science and technology for a position to begin during the 2015-2016 academic year. Roosevelt University, Assistant Professor in Sustainability Studies (Jan 5th) []

Roosevelt University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Sustainability Studies for a tenure-track position beginning 15 August 2015. Applicants should have the ability to teach multiple courses in the Sustainability Studies (SUST) undergraduate curriculum as well as general education, honors, and/or special topic courses related to their areas of expertise. Teaching load is six courses per year. Courses are offered at Roosevelt's Chicago campus as well as online. Duties: (1) Teaching courses within the SUST major as well as one or two courses per year in an appropriate academic department within the College of Arts and Sciences. (2) Assisting with SUST program development through curriculum enhancement and assessment, service learning project development, community outreach, and online social media writing. University of California, Santa Barbara - Asst Prof of Environmental Politics (Sept 20)[]

The University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Political Science seeks a scholar who focuses on the politics of the environment, energy, or natural resources for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2015. The School of Marine Science and Policy (SMSP) at the University of Delaware (UD) is hiring four tenure track faculty members in ocean science and policy. University of Illinois, Springfield - Asst Prof of Environmental Policy Studies (Sept 22)[]
