Arizona State University, Barrett Honors College - Lecturer (Renewable) []
- The Barrett Honors College of Arizona State University is expanding its faculty and invites applications for a position in the core Honors faculty. The faculty members of Barrett are non-tenure track Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Principal Lecturers; most are on three-year renewable and rolling appointments. The main teaching responsibility rests on a two-semester interdisciplinary seminar course, The Human Event, in which students examine important ideas from earliest writings to the present. Special attention is given to critical thinking and argumentative writing skills. In addition, faculty members teach upper-division seminars, and mentor honors students throughout their four years in independent studies, individual conferences, theses, and other forms of scholarly achievement.
- Barrett attracts many of the top students in the country and provides them with an enriched academic experience that challenges them and enables them to become better citizens. The typical Barrett freshman is in the top five percent of his or her high school class, has SAT scores of 1320 or above, and has a high school grade-point average of 3.81.
- We seek to fill a full-time, multi-year faculty position whose primary responsibility will be to teach the first-year Human Event seminar. Successful applicants will demonstrate experience in and openness to teaching primary sources through multiple theoretical/disciplinary/methodological approaches, across different cultures and historical eras. The position begins August 2014; the nine-month salary will be based on education and experience.
- Qualifications: A PhD in any field of the humanities, natural or social sciences that complements the academic focus of the existing faculty members. Candidates whose work integrates views from multiple areas of the natural sciences, the social sciences, and/or the humanities are encouraged to apply. Experience in teaching argumentative writing skills is required, and experience leading seminar-based discussions is highly desired.

The Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Literature and the Environment. Scholars with comparative, transnational, or transhistorical approaches are especially encouraged to apply. Secondary specialization should include one of the following: Critical Race Studies, Queer Theory and/or Sexuality Studies, Global Anglophone Literatures, New Media Studies, or Digital Humanities.
Teaching assignments include courses at upper-division and MA levels, survey courses, general education, composition, and others depending on the candidate's interests and departmental needs. Faculty teach three or four courses each semester. Reduction in teaching load is provided for the first two years, and re-assigned time is available for research, course development, and administration.
Qualifications
- · Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature is required by August 2014, with training and experience in Environmental Studies/Ecocriticism/Green Cultural Studies. ABD's will be considered, but must show evidence of degree completion prior to appointment.

The University of Kansas English Department invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Environmental Rhetoric. We are interested in candidates whose work focuses on contemporary environmental discourse and rhetoric in a range of representations across media. This should include an interest in how environmental rhetoric shapes policy and public action. A variety of possible methodological approaches would be welcome, including, but not limited to, green cultural studies, rhetorical theory, critical theory, and critical discourse analysis. The position is expected to begin as early as August 18, 2014. The successful candidate will be prepared to participate and represent the concerns of his/her field in a cluster of faculty from Environmental Studies, Geology, Geography, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Law. The cluster will focus on water and related energy resources; develop new interdisciplinary degree programs; and collaborate on major grants. In addition to this collaborative work, the faculty member will be expected to research, write, and publish in the specialty of environmental rhetoric; develop and teach courses in the specialty; serve on graduate student committees, direct theses and dissertations, and perform advising responsibilities; and serve on departmental, College, and University committees. There will be a 2-2 teaching load.

The University of Oregon Environmental Studies Program and Department of English invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position at 1.0 FTE (9 month appointment) to begin Fall 2014. We seek candidates who demonstrate potential for outstanding research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Research interests for the position should be focused in the environmental humanities and might include, but are not limited to, environmental justice and literature; food studies and culture; sovereignty, self-determination, indigeneity; literary engagement with science and technology studies; ecocritical theory; critical animal studies; and environmental media. The full-time position is 60% in Environmental Studies and 40% in English and requires a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary work.
The most competitive applicants will be scholars who will enhance the English Department’s foundational reputation in Literature and Environment and the University’s well-established Environmental Studies graduate and undergraduate programs. We are especially interested in scholars whose research and teaching will help enhance existing strengths in the examination of empire and imperialism, race, gender, class, disability, and (post)colonial and (trans)national cultural formations; and we encourage applications from candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

The Bates College Program in Environmental Studies seeks to hire a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor whose scholarly focus is on cultural studies of the environment within one of the humanities. We are looking for a colleague to join a vibrant, multi-disciplinary program beginning 1 August 2014.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad introductory course on the environment and human culture in each semester, an existing mid-level environmental literature course in one semester, and two additional courses focusing on literary or cultural perspectives on the environment. Advising of senior theses is also required. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring diverse perspectives on U.S. environmental traditions. Applicants should have completed their Ph.D. (or be ABD with extensive experience) by time of appointment; teaching experience and strong communication skills are required.
