The College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor with administrative experience to serve as the Academic Program Director of the Mexican American Studies Program at The University of Texas Río Grande Valley (UTRGV) beginning fall 2017. The successful candidate will be considered for the Dr. Robert S. Nelsen Endowed Professorship in Mexican American Studies to begin in Fall 2017. The MAS Program offers a B.A., Graduate Certificate, and Masters of Art in Interdisciplinary Studies. The candidate will lead MAS in fulfilling that mission and also in gaining greater regional and national significance. MAS is committed to student success and to scholarly research speaking to the strengths and needs of students and the community. The Center and Program are also committed to cultivating community engagement opportunities, social justice, and creative activities by faculty and students. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a similar commitment in their own work. Given the steady growth of MAS during the past five years, it is expected the Director will assist the program in achieving departmental status. The candidate will be coming into a Program that has a strong community of both faculty and students committed to their mission. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. , from an accredited university in Chican@ Studies, Latin@ Studies, American Studies or another related field in which the applicant’s expertise is interdisciplinary and falls within the area(s) of Chican@/Latin@ Studies. Candidates must meet the institutional requirements for tenure to be considered for the position at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor and appointment to the distinguished Dr. Robert S. Nelsen Endowed Professorship in Mexican American Studies. Letters of recommendation (3) must highlight the outstanding contributions and scholarship of the nominee that makes him/her an excellent candidate for the Dr. Robert S. Nelsen Endowed Professorship. Preferred Qualifications: Possess bilingual and bi-literate skills as appropriate for the goals of UTRGV.
