Brown University (RI) - Anthropology and International Studies (Deadline: 1 Oct. 2014)

As part of a major new hiring initiative across multiple fields, the Watson Institute for International Studies and the Department of Anthropology at Brown University invite applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor in sociocultural anthropology to begin July 2015.

We are looking for a scholar whose work focuses on one or more of the three areas of Watson Institute strength. These are: security (including such topics as studies of violence, war, policing, militarization and military policy, and borders), development (including such issues as economic and political development, inequality, gender, humanitarianism, and the ethical dimensions of intervention), and governance (including, for example, ethnographic study of states, transnational governance, civil society, policy, social movements, NGOs, and human rights). Of particular interest are applicants whose research seeks to engage policy and matches the mission of the Watson Institute “to promote a just and peaceful world through research, teaching, and public engagement.” The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in the Watson Institute for International Studies, pursuing a vibrant research agenda, engaging with our interdisciplinary intellectual community, and teaching and mentoring students in our programs. California State University, Fullerton (CA) - Cultural Anthropology (Deadline: 15 Oct. 2014)

We seek applicants in the field of Cultural Anthropology with an emphasis on human rights, transnationalism, immigration and migration, culture change, and/or globalization. The geographic area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to Southeast Asia or Pacific Islands. A willingness to engage students in local ethnographic fieldwork or internship projects and an interest in applied aspects of cultural anthropology such as business anthropology, urban anthropology, and/or digital forms of communication are also welcomed. California State University, Northridge (CA) - Bio Archaelogist or Bio Cultural Anthropologist (Deadline: Oct. 15 2014)

The California State University, Northridge Department of Anthropology seeks to hire a 3-field-trained (archaeology, biological, socio-cultural) anthropologist who studies the interface of culture and human biology in either modern or archaeological human populations. Specific areas of interest can include: some aspect of human biocultural evolution; biocultural adaptation to environmental or culture change; the causes and consequences of disease or physical violence in ancient or modern populations; past or contemporary patterns of health, nutrition, diet, and/or reproduction. Geographic area of research is open, but preference will be given to candidates who work in the Americas. The successful candidate will complement or enhance the existing strengths of the program, support the three-field emphases of our B.A. and M.A. programs, and be able to teach some or all of the following: Introduction to Archaeology and/or Physical Anthropology; Human Variation; Medical Anthropology; Applied Anthropology; Quantitative Methods; Archaeological and/or Biological Theory; Anthropological Methods; undergraduate and graduate seminars in Archaeology or Biological Anthropology; as well as develop new courses in their specific area of specialization.

The standard teaching load at CSUN is three courses per semester the first year of appointment, and four courses per semester thereafter. Faculty are also expected to maintain an active research or consulting programme, including pursuing external funding and publishing in appropriate scholarly or professional venues. California State University, San Bernardino (CA) - TT Asst. Professor of Anthropology / Museum Director (Deadline: Oct. 20 2014)

The Department of Anthropology and the Anthropology Museum at California State University San Bernardino invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor/museum director position to begin September 2015. As an assistant professor in anthropology, the successful applicant will be expected to teach a two-thirds load, a combination of museum methods courses and anthropology courses. The successful applicant will have research and teaching interests that complement those of existing faculty. The teaching load can be reduced through successful external grant activity to support released time for museum activities. As a museum director, the successful applicant will devote the remaining one-third load to overseeing all aspects of the operation of a small anthropology museum, including (but not limited to) collections management, periodic exhibit preparation, management of community relations, and coordination of volunteers and interns. The successful applicant will be judged for tenure and promotion in both the assistant professor and museum director roles. Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology or closely related field and must demonstrate substantial training and/or experience in museum operations.

Coastal Carolina University (SC) - Intercultural/International Communication (Deadline: 15 Oct. 2014)

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor for Intercultural/International Communication. The appointment will be effective either January 16, 2015 or August 16, 2015 depending on availability of the candidate. 

A Ph.D. in Communication, Anthropology, or languages is required. Teaching experience and coursework in intercultural/international communication are also required. A record that indicates the potential for scholarly productivity and success, and demonstrated interest in institutional service is required. Candidates should ideally possess instructional/research interests and competencies in key areas that could include cross-cultural communication, acculturation, language and culture, semiotics or sociolinguistics. Preference will be given to applicants who are qualified to teach (have 18 graduate credit hours) in the Department's areas of language instruction: German, French or Italian. Additional languages and/or cultural proficiencies may be considered. The successful candidate will work with members of the Department to strategically develop courses in intercultural/international communication. Teaching assignments may include evening/weekend courses. Prior experience with distance learning would be beneficial.

Marlboro College, a liberal arts college of 300 students and 41 faculty members, invites applications from broadly trained, dedicated teachers for a full-time, tenure-track position in Sociocultural Anthropology. The successful candidate's core responsibilities will be to teach introductory and intermediate anthropology courses that describe the discipline, its theories, and its methodologies while supporting advanced, independent, often cross-disciplinary undergraduate work in a liberal arts setting. The Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Muhlenberg College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2015. We are seeking a broadly trained cultural anthropologist to support and complement our curriculum in anthropology, with topical specializations in one or more of the following areas: transnationalism and globalization; race, ethnicity, and indigeneity; and, economic life. Preference will be given to applicants with an international focus (any geographic area other than Latin America is welcome), and who can contribute to the College's interdisciplinary programs.

While the department expects applicants to be actively engaged in research and publication, its primary commitment is to quality undergraduate education. New York University (NY) - Religious Studies / Anthropology (Deadline: Oct. 15 2014)

The Department of Anthropology at Northern Arizona University invites applicants for a tenure-track position in Sociocultural Medical Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position may begin January 2015 or August 2015. Job Description: This position is a full time (9-month) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. A Running List of Schools Violating AAA Career Center Request

The AAA has requested that search committees refrain from asking for letters of recommendation until initial screening of applicants has been completed:

"Solicitation of letters of recommendation should occur only after an initial screening of candidates to minimize inconvenience to applicants and referees. Names of references may be requested, however."
