Allegheny College (PA) - TT Assistant Professor of English-Fiction

The English Department invites applicants for a tenure track position in creative writing: fiction, with a strong secondary teaching interest in another genre, beginning August, 2016. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in fiction-writing and literature. Teaching load is between 5.5 and 6 courses, depending on senior project advising. ENGLISH - Full-time, academic year, tenure track Assistant Professor of English - Poetry Writing, College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, to begin September 15, 2016. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Cal Poly is committed to the teacher/scholar model. In the English Department the typical teaching assignment is 12 units per quarter with correspondingly reasonable service and research expectations. Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills: Ph.D. in Creative Writing, or Ph.D. in English with M.F.A. in Poetry at time of appointment; strong background in 20th and 21st century poetry; experience and excellence in college-level teaching; and evidence of creative activity, including publications in national journals, and professional activity that keeps the candidate abreast of knowledge and developments within his or her professional field are required. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate is complete prior to the start appointment.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to, or potential for, teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. BASIC FUNCTION: Directs the operations of the Center for Poets and Writers, including responsibility for planning, organization, and direction of the Center's services. Develops, promotes, and presents major arts and literary programming internally and for the community at large. Participates in monthly Management Team meetings with the Tulsa Campus President.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (Includes but not limited to the following): Developing, promoting, and presenting major arts/literary programming internally and for the community at large. Teaching literature and writing courses, as well as developing non-credit writing workshops for the general public. Working with partner schools and other social agencies to develop special literacy programs for underserved audiences. Assisting with fundraising and grant procurement to supplement Center initiatives Assuming full responsibility for maintaining the general operations of the Center.

WORK SCHEDULE: Generally Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with varied weekends and after hours.

TRAVEL: Travel is 15% out of state, 15% in-state. Remaining is in town.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry 8-10 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Masters degree in a related area, from an accredited institution

EXPERIENCE: Five years teaching or related experience. Demonstrated ability to work with a broad cross-section of the community and forge in-kind partnerships. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement literacy based programming.

OTHER: Excellent leadership and team-building skills. Demonstrated administrative capability. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in booking high profile speakers linked to reading initiatives. Have a passion for literacy that reaches beyond routine job requirements. Experience in Fundraising.

Brown University Department in Literary Arts invites applications for the inaugural Bonderman Professors of Creative Writing, beginning in July 2016. There are two positions available, one is in fiction and one is in poetry. These are one-year positions with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years. The department of Writing, Literature, and Publishing at Emerson College seeks a Distinguished Writer-in-Residence to teach fiction writing in the department’s thriving graduate program. The successful candidate will teach two classes a year (can be in the same semester), supervise MFA theses, participate in MFA admissions, and may have the opportunity to collaborate with Ploughshares, Emerson’s nationally renowned literary journal. Kenyon College (OH) - Kenyon Review Fellowships in Creative Writing (2 year appt.)

The Kenyon Review invites applications for a two-year residential post-graduate fellowship in creative writing. During these two years, fellows will undertake a significant writing project and teach one course per semester in the Kenyon College English Department, contingent upon departmental needs.
