The Creative Writing Program, part of the Arts Program at Bryn Mawr College, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the level of advanced Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Creative Writing to begin August 1, 2015, with a specialization in prose fiction and creative nonfiction.
The Creative Writing Program (CWP) offers a comprehensive curriculum of workshops to undergraduate students at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. Class sizes are small and all courses are writing-intensive. The CWP aims to serve both students who might wish to pursue graduate studies in Creative Writing and those who wish to explore Creative Writing on a course-by-course basis. An annual Reading Series brings writers of national and international reputation in all literary genres to campus.
Candidates must have an M.F.A. or Ph.D. degree in Creative Writing (or equivalent expertise) in hand by the start date, with a record of significant publications. Academic responsibilities include: teaching three beginning/intermediate or advanced-level undergraduate creative writing courses each year in fiction and/or creative nonfiction and a critical thinking and intensive writing course for first year students. We expect this new faculty member to participate in staffing and administration of the CWP including the Reading Series.

Tenure-track position to teach creative nonfiction and fiction writing workshops and form-and-technique courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The applicant hired will teach a 2-2 load and is expected to produce a strong body of scholarship. Candidates must be willing to work closely with the corps of writers that comprise the department's writing faculty. Candidates must also be willing and able to supervise M.F.A. theses and senior honors theses.
Candidates must have a demonstrated expertise teaching creative nonfiction and fiction writing workshops and form and technique seminars. Candidates must have published at least one book of nonfiction, preferably memoir or personal essay, and have a record of significant fiction and nonfiction publications in magazines and journals. M.F.A. is required.
Candidates should have a working knowledge of the whole canon of narrative nonfiction with a demonstrated expertise in memoir and personal essay. While teaching obligations will rest mainly in the nonfiction arena, candidates will also teach undergraduate fiction courses. From Saul Bellow, William Gaddis, Mary McCarthy, and Ralph Ellison to John Ashbery, Philip Roth, William Weaver, and Chinua Achebe, Bard’s literature faculty, past and present, represents some of the most important writers of our time. The prize is intended to encourage and support young writers of fiction to pursue their creative goals and provide an opportunity to work in a fertile and intellectual environment. Last year’s Bard Fiction Prize was awarded to Brian Conn for his book, The Fixed Stars (Fiction Collective 2, 2010).

Princeton University (NJ) - Hodder Fellowships
The Hodder Fellowship will be given to writers and non-literary artists of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the 2015-2016 academic year. Potential Hodder Fellows are writers, composers, choreographers, visual artists, performance artists, or other kinds of artists or humanists who have "much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts"; they are selected more "for promise than for performance." Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published a first book or have similar achievements in their own fields; the Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with the "studious leisure" to undertake significant new work.
Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton, but no formal teaching is involved. A $77,000 stipend is provided for this 10-month appointment. Fellowships are not intended to fund work leading to an advanced degree. One need not be a U.S. citizen to apply.

Stanford University (CA) - Wallace Stegner Fellowships
Latest News: The online Stegner Fellowship application for 2015-2017 applicants will open on September 1, 2014 and close on December 1, 2014.
Unique among writing programs, Stanford offers ten two-year fellowships each year, five in fiction and five in poetry. All the fellows in each genre convene weekly in a 3-hour workshop with faculty.
Fellows are regarded as working artists, intent upon practicing and perfecting their craft. There are no curricular requirements other than workshop attendance and writing. The program offers no degree.
In awarding fellowships, we consider the quality of the candidate’s creative work, potential for growth and ability to contribute to and profit from our writing workshops. The Stanford Creative Writing Program’s students are diverse in style and experience, with talent and seriousness the true common denominators.
To be a Stegner Fellow:
- we do not require any degrees or tests for admission
- no school of writing is favored over any other
- chronological age is not a consideration
Fellowships include a living stipend of $26,000 per year. In addition, fellows’ tuition and health insurance are paid for by the Creative Writing Program. The Stegner Fellowship is a full-time academic commitment, and is not intended to be pursued concurrently with another degree program. Fellows must live close enough to Stanford to be able to attend workshops, readings, and events.

University of Wisconsin-Madison (WI) - Institute for Creative Writing Fellowships
Since 1986, the University of Wisconsin's Institute for Creative Writing has provided time, space, and an intellectual community for writers working on a first book of poetry or fiction. Since 2012, we have also considered applicants who have published only one full-length collection of creative writing prior to the application deadline, although unpublished authors remain eligible, and quality of writing remains the nearly exclusive criterion for selection. Altogether, our poetry and fiction fellows have published over ninety full-length collections and novels, many of them winning major national honors.
At present, the Institute annually offers up to five year-long fellowships. Typically there are two fiction fellowships (the James C. McCreight Fiction Fellowship and the Carol Houck Smith Fiction Fellowship), two poetry fellowships (the Jay C. and Ruth Halls Fellowship and the Diane Middlebrook Poetry Fellowship), and one fellowship in either fiction or poetry for a graduate of the University's MFA Program in Creative Writing (the Halls Emerging Artist Fellowship).
Each of these fellowships carries with it a $30,000 stipend, generous health benefits, and a one-course-per-semester teaching assignment in intermediate or advanced undergraduate creative writing. Fiction and poetry fellows are asked to give one public reading during the fellowship year. Additionally, all fellows participate in determining the recipients of the annual Brittingham and Felix Pollak Prizes in Poetry, as well as the Program in Creative Writing’s undergraduate writing contests. Along with faculty, fellows also serve on the committees selecting the following year’s Institute fellows.
