Position Summary

The Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University invites applications for Assistant/Associate/ Professor in Strategic communication (public Public Relations/ advertising). The Department expects the successful applicant to be able to teach PR and advertising classes in both Arabic and English, and to build curriculum and direction/vision for PR (Strategic communication) in the Arab world. The successful applicant will not only teach, but guide students toward successful internships and jobs in PR industry.

1. College-level experience teaching all aspects of PR (strategic communication), and experience in writing and production of advertising and /or PR publication. 2. Experience with the use of social media in PR is a plus. 3. Bilingual in Arabic and English

Qualifications:

1. An earned Doctorate in Communications or Doctorate in Public relations/ or advertising. 2. Professional experience in the field of PR and/ or advertising 3. College-level experience in teaching introductory PR courses, as well as Public relations and advertising writing courses.

Position Summary



The Department of Mass Communications invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Department. The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree, from an accredited and reputable university, in journalism communication, with a record of teaching and distinguished scholarship. He/she must be fluent in both Arabic and English, possess awareness of the cultural specificities of the Middle East region, and value cultural diversity. Professional experience in any of the areas of journalism, strategic communication, public relations, advertising, digital Media, and/or broadcast production is desirable. In addition to stellar academic credentials, the candidate should provide evidence of demonstrated leadership ability, effective administrative skills, and the ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in teams for enhanced productivity. This is critical since the department aims to be the top ranked journalism program in the region and is expected to play a major role in fulfilling Qatar’s 2030 vision and Qatar national development strategy (QNDS) 2011-2016.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Provide effective and motivating leadership to faculty and staff in the Department of Mass Communication • Maintain efficient administrative and reporting system for the department • Develop and implement departmental strategic plan in alignment with the college of Arts & Sciences and QU strategic plans • Promote curriculum development and enhancement consistent with ACEJMC accreditation requirements and foster growth in enrollment while maintaining program quality • Develop an actively funded research program and facilitate the research agenda of faculty • Develop and strengthen partnerships with relevant parties in Qatar such as Al-Jazeera Network, Northwestern school of journalism, and other public and private organizations • Teach one course per semester in the field of specialization • Oversee departmental committees and actively participate in university and college committees.

Competencies:

• Effective leadership skills and experience in promoting team work and collaboration • Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic • Strong interpersonal skills and personality traits that foster high faculty morale and productivity • Demonstrated administrative experience and skills in a university environment • A strong record of academic and research knowledge and achievements in relevant areas of journalism.

Qualifications:

• A PhD in a relevant area of journalism or communication • At least 10 years of academic or professional experience beyond the PhD • Strong track record of research and creative work • Publication record in international scientific journals and creative work appropriate for the appointment at the Associate or Full professor rank.
