Aarhus University (DK) - Associate Professorship in New Testament Studies

The School of Culture and Society invites applications for an associate professorship in New Testament Studies at the Department of Theology. The associate professorship is a permanent position which begins on 1 February 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position: We are seeking an innovative and dedicated candidate with a strong research profile and research plan in New Testament Studies who will contribute to the development of the Department of Theology at Aarhus University and its core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. The associate professor will be expected to develop collaborative research initiatives with other fields in theology and at the School of Culture and Society, and to initiate projects with external financing.

The Department of Theology at Aarhus University offers a dynamic, collegial and internationally orientated research and teaching environment with good possibilities for career development, project funding and administrative support.

Research: The School of Culture and Society emphasises high-quality research and attaches great importance to international and interdisciplinary collaboration, participation in collective research projects, and the ability to attract external research funding. Accordingly, we are looking for a candidate with a strong research profile and track record in New Testament Studies.

In the application, the candidate should explicitly present her/his vision and plans for the development of New Testament Studies at Aarhus University with respect to research and teaching.

Education: The associate professor will be expected to teach and supervise students at all levels (BA, MA and PhD) and contribute to the development and application of innovative teaching methods. The Department of Theology expects that the successful candidate participates actively in the development of a dynamic teaching environment in dialogue with students and other professors. The position involves teaching duties in New Testament Studies as well as responsibility for the development of interdisciplinary teaching activities. This also includes (team) teaching of other topics within the theology programme. Talent development: The associate professor is expected to contribute to talent development in New Testament Studies and theology. He/she will recruit and supervise PhD students as well as teach and develop PhD courses.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent qualifications in the field of New Testament Studies or related areas of research as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to those acquired in an assistant professorship.

Applicants must furthermore be able to document: An internationally oriented research profile. A strong, relevant international publication profile. Experience of participation in collective research projects. Proficiency in languages relevant to New Testament Studies and related areas of research. Successful teaching experience in areas of relevance to New Testament Studies and theology as well as mastery of academic English in the classroom. Participation in national and international networks as well as experience of interdisciplinary cooperation. Experience of attracting external research funding. Experience of supervising student projects and of researcher talent development. Applicants are expected to contribute to the department’s academic environment. We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students.

In order to maintain and develop the department’s research environment, the person appointed is expected to be present at the department on a daily basis.

The Department of Theology: The successful applicant will join the Department of Theology at the School of Culture and Society, Faculty of Arts. Theology at Aarhus University is one of the largest environments for theological research in Europe, and attracts a number of internationally recognised researchers. The environment is nationally and internationally renowned for its research activities in a number of areas such as Pauline studies, gospel studies, Christianity in antiquity, Reformation theology and bioethics, as well as the study of N.F.S. Grundtvig and K.E. Løgstrup. Brandeis University (MA) - TT Asst. Professor - Hebrew Bible

The Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Hebrew Bible at the assistant professor level, to begin Fall 2016. The position is for a scholar who specializes in the critical study of the Hebrew Bible in the historical and textual context of the ancient Near East and who shows promise of continued work on the biblical text in its original context. A candidate will be expected to have command of the relevant philological and historical-critical approaches to the text as well as of the pertinent languages and literatures of the ancient Near East used in biblical study. Knowledge of aspects of later Judaic interpretive literature and theoretical approaches used in the Humanities or Social Sciences is desirable. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including biblical Hebrew text courses, and to supervise MA and PhD students in a program of Bible and Ancient Near East. Georgetown University (DC) - Hebrew Bible

Theology Department, invites applications for a tenure track, assistant professor in Hebrew Bible. Area of emphasis is open.

Candidates should demonstrate an interest in and an aptitude for teaching undergraduates, as well as evidence of a promising scholarly publishing career. The person hired will be expected to regularly teach the general education course Introduction to Biblical Literature, upper level seminars in Hebrew Bible, and electives in biblical studies topics. John Brown University (AR) - New Testament

John Brown University, private, evangelical and Christian, seeks a faculty member to teach in the Division of Biblical Studies beginning August 1, 2016. McMaster University (CAN) - TT Assistant or Associate Professor - New Testament

The Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in New Testament, with secondary specialization in Second Temple Judaism, at the Assistant Professor level (or the Associate Professor level in exceptional circumstances) beginning July 1, 2016.

We seek a colleague who will maintain and build upon the international reputation and existing strengths of the Department’s Biblical Field, which is marked especially by its study of early Christianity and early Judaism in light of one another. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellence and/or exceptional promise in the areas of research, graduate supervision, and undergraduate teaching. A Ph.D. in a field pertinent to New Testament studies is required.

Religious Studies at McMaster has long been noted for its strong faculty, commitment to diversity, and academic rigour. Saint Anselm College (NH) - TT Asst. Professor - New Testament

The Department of Theology at Saint Anselm College, a Roman Catholic undergraduate liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition in Manchester, NH, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the New Testament to begin August 2016. The successful candidate will be capable of teaching Biblical Theology (an introductory course on the bible), The Gospels, The Writings of St. Paul, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Samford University (AL) - Chair of the Department of Religion and S. Louis and Ann W. Armstrong Professor of Religion

Samford University's Department of Religion seeks a department chair effective August 2016. Samford University is the largest privately-supported and fully-accredited institution of higher education in Alabama. Located in suburban Birmingham, the university was founded in 1841 and has more than 300 full-time faculty and 4,900 students. The university is consistently one of the highest ranked comprehensive universities in the South.

Qualifications: Ph.D. required. The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in teaching and research, preferably with a specialization in the Hebrew or Christian Scriptures, though well-qualified candidates in other areas will be considered. Administrative experience is desired as is experience teaching religious studies in a liberal arts context. All faculty members are expected to support Samford's Christian mission. The chair of the religion department must be a member of a Baptist church.

Duties and Expectations: The responsibilities of this tenure-track appointment include teaching two courses per semester and overseeing the department's mission, curriculum, faculty and recruitment. The department chair also plays a pivotal role in representing the department within the university and to its constituencies. Like other faculty positions in the department, this is a nine-month appointment with the opportunity to teach additional courses in the summer and January terms. St. Mary's University in San Antonio (TX) - Biblical Studies

The Theology Department of St. Mary's University in San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biblical Studies at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2016. The successful candidate will demonstrate a robust academic research agenda and excellence in teaching that is grounded in the historical-critical methods and inclusive of traditional and contemporary theological methods of interpretation. University of Oregon (OR) - TT Asst. Professor - Biblical Studies

The department of Religious Studies at the University of Oregon is pleased to announce an opening for a tenure-track assistant professor in the field of Biblical Studies.
