Edgewood College (WI) - TT Asst. Professor, Biblical Studies

Edgewood College announces an opening of a tenure track position for an Assistant Professor in Biblical Studies: Position to begin January 2016.

Teach introductory, upper division, and COR courses in Religious Studies; participate in departmental and college governance; pursue scholarly work in the discipline; and partner with others in the Edgewood and Madison communities in supporting and extending the mission and vision of the College.

Qualifications, Required Knowledge and Skills: We seek an individual committed to students, teaching, and service in the Dominican Catholic liberal arts tradition. A completed Ph.D and evidence of excellence in teaching are required. Preferred candidate will have significant undergraduate teaching experience and additional expertise/competence in the following areas: History of Christianity, Science & Religion, and Online or Blended-Course Pedagogy.

McMaster University (CAN) - TT Assistant or Associate Professor - New Testament

The Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in New Testament, with secondary specialization in Second Temple Judaism, at the Assistant Professor level (or the Associate Professor level in exceptional circumstances) beginning July 1, 2016.

We seek a colleague who will maintain and build upon the international reputation and existing strengths of the Department’s Biblical Field, which is marked especially by its study of early Christianity and early Judaism in light of one another. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellence and/or exceptional promise in the areas of research, graduate supervision, and undergraduate teaching. A Ph.D. in a field pertinent to New Testament studies is required.

Religious Studies at McMaster has long been noted for its strong faculty, commitment to diversity, and academic rigour. The Department is comprised of three graduate fields (Asian Religions, Biblical Studies, and Western Religious Traditions). Research is conducted employing a wide variety of approaches: textual, ethnographic, historical, philosophical, theological, and philological. There are currently 50 graduate students enrolled in the Department’s M.A. and Ph.D. programmes, with 14 professors active in graduate supervision. Providence College (RI) - TT Position in Theology (Biblical/Hebrew)

Providence College invites applications for the following tenure-track positions which will commence in August 2016. Searches will be conducted during the 2015-2016 academic year. The 105-acre campus of Providence College is situated in Rhode Island's capital city and is located only an hour's drive from Boston and just a few hours' drive from New York City.

Theology (biblical/Hebrew)

Applicants must possess a doctorate from an accredited institution at the time of appointment and demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, the ability to establish a scholarly research program, and a willingness to be active in service to the college and the community. Saint Anselm College (NH) - TT Asst. Professor - New Testament

The Department of Theology at Saint Anselm College, a Roman Catholic undergraduate liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition in Manchester, NH, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the New Testament to begin August 2016. The successful candidate will be capable of teaching Biblical Theology (an introductory course on the bible), The Gospels, The Writings of St. Paul, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Candidates should show familiarity with methods and approaches used in Catholic biblical interpretation. Samford University (AL) - Chair of the Department of Religion and S. Louis and Ann W. Armstrong Professor of Religion

Samford University's Department of Religion seeks a department chair effective August 2016. Samford University is the largest privately-supported and fully-accredited institution of higher education in Alabama. Located in suburban Birmingham, the university was founded in 1841 and has more than 300 full-time faculty and 4,900 students. The university is consistently one of the highest ranked comprehensive universities in the South.

Qualifications: Ph.D. required. The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in teaching and research, preferably with a specialization in the Hebrew or Christian Scriptures, though well-qualified candidates in other areas will be considered. Administrative experience is desired as is experience teaching religious studies in a liberal arts context. All faculty members are expected to support Samford's Christian mission. The chair of the religion department must be a member of a Baptist church.

Duties and Expectations: The responsibilities of this tenure-track appointment include teaching two courses per semester and overseeing the department's mission, curriculum, faculty and recruitment. The department chair also plays a pivotal role in representing the department within the university and to its constituencies. Like other faculty positions in the department, this is a nine-month appointment with the opportunity to teach additional courses in the summer and January terms. The successful applicant will teach the Biblical Perspectives course in the universitys Core Curriculum and other undergraduate courses in his or her area of expertise.

University of Oregon (OR) - TT Asst. Professor - Biblical Studies

The department of Religious Studies at the University of Oregon is pleased to announce an opening for a tenure-track assistant professor in the field of Biblical Studies. The successful candidate will be a dynamic scholar who focuses on early Christian and/or early Jewish literatures of the first centuries BCE and CE. Candidates whose research considers the role of women or other groups historically neglected by scholars, or the interplay between culture and religion, will receive particular consideration. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses on the New Testament, including surveys, the Gospels, Paul’s letters, as well as advanced seminars in the candidate’s area of specialization. Ability to teach biblical Hebrew is a plus.

The regular teaching load is five classes apportioned over three terms per academic year.

The position requires a Ph.D. in-hand at the time of appointment in the areas of Bible, early Judaism/Christianity, religious studies, or another closely-related academic field. Evidence of successful teaching in the academic study of religion and the willingness to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds is desirable. This position seeks a specialist with an ambitious research agenda who will thrive at a top research institution. It also seeks a candidate willing to perform university service and to teach a range of courses that will attract and appeal to undergraduate students at a public university.

Oxford University (UK) - Associate Professor in New Testament Studies

The University proposes to appoint an Associate Professor in New Testament Studies. The post is available from 1 October 2016, or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a full-time, permanent post (subject to successful completion of a review). The appointee will be a member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion and hold a tutorial fellowship at Mansfield College.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher and teacher in New Testament Studies: She/He will undertake research and scholarship on the New Testament, give lectures, classes and tutorials, supervise, support and examine students at all levels, and play a part in the administrative work of the faculty and the college.

She/He will hold a doctorate in any field relating to New Testament studies and have a research and publication record of international standing in the field.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable record of excellence in teaching and an ability to engage in syllabus development in Biblical Studies. She/He will also be able to provide evidence of competence to supervise research and commitment to raising research funding.

She/He will be required to evidence the ability and commitment to participate in the wider academic activities of both faculty and college, as well as sympathy for the nature and aims of the college and a willingness to participate in collegiate life and government.
