Ackerman/Hurdle Chaplaincy Chair
Wesleyan College invites applications to fill the Ackerman/Hurdle Chaplaincy Chair: a tenure-track half-time Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and half-time Chaplain/Director of Campus Ministry beginning in August 2017 to teach courses in Religious Studies, to foster faith development, and to provide spiritual guidance to our academic community. Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. in Religion, Theology, or Biblical Studies or those who anticipate completing the degree by the time of the appointment; however, we will consider ABD, D. Min., and other terminal degree candidates with strong evidence of scholarly and ministerial achievement. Wesleyan College, the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women, is a small liberal arts women’s college in Macon, GA with a highly diverse undergraduate population. The successful applicant must be committed to Wesleyan College’s mission to educate women in a United Methodist Church-related environment with a strong interfaith focus and dedication to collaboration and inclusion. Excellence in teaching is our first priority, though evidence of research abilities and commitment to scholarly activity is expected. Individuals with research interests in Biblical Studies, Early Christianity, Comparative Theology, or Interfaith Dialogue are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Chaplain/Director of Campus Ministry oversees all programming related to the spiritual life of the campus, helping students to grow in their faith, planning and officiating at worship services, providing spiritual counseling, organizing group activities, and overseeing administrative tasks related to campus ministries. Strong preference will be given to candidates ordained in The United Methodist Church.
