Appalachian State University - TT Asst Prof Sustainable Development / Culture and Environment
The Goodnight Family Sustainable Development Department at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2015. We seek broadly trained applicants with expertise in Culture and Environment, whose work is in the environmental humanities and/or the humanistic social sciences and situated in the larger context of sustainable development. The area of specialization is open. Candidates must have a PhD by the beginning of the appointment.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach courses in global and/or postcolonial environmental literature, environmental humanities, and upper-level coursework in the candidate’s area of expertise. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research and a strong desire to contribute to a vibrant, growing department. We welcome applications from candidates whose work links two or more disciplines. The department is committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment.
The teaching load is three courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda. Faculty must be able to maintain a productive level of scholarship and participate regularly in curriculum development, student advisement, and service activities.

The Department of English, General Literature, and Rhetoric at Binghamton University seeks candidates who specialize in race/ethnicity in a global, transnational, or comparative context. We welcome candidates who engage with the theories, methods, and archives of reading literature and culture within transnational, transatlantic, hemispheric, and/or transoceanic networks, and we are especially interested in candidates specializing in areas such as African, African American, and Caribbean literatures and cultures, indigenous literatures and cultures, and/or the literatures and cultures of the Americas.
We seek applicants whose work on race and ethnic studies develops an approach compatible with a major campus initiative in Citizenship, Rights, and Cultural Belonging, one of five Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (TAEs) that Binghamton University has identified for growth under its SUNY2020 plan. The ideal candidate's research in race and ethnic studies will engage methods and questions across multiple disciplines about citizenship, rights, and/or forms of cultural belonging. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of this TAE as an area of intensive research and teaching. The Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics invites applications for an Assistant Professor in African American and/or African Diaspora literatures. Scholars with comparative, transnational, or transhistorical approaches are especially encouraged to apply. Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in English or a related field, awarded prior to August 19, 2015. Specialization should be in Nineteenth-Century Transatlantic Literature and Culture with an emphasis on the long nineteenth century (circa 1770-1900). Secondary interests may include the poetry, prose, or theater from this historical period; the literature and culture of the Black Atlantic; transnational approaches to literary and visual print culture, travel and exploration, migration and diaspora, slavery and abolition, colonialism and anti-colonial resistance, or indigenous culture and revolution; the literature and culture of reform movements; the Gothic. An interest in critical theory, Romantic writers, and/or realist or naturalist writers from the period is desirable. Candidate must demonstrate ability to effectively work with a diverse student population.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and potential for successful research, publication and other scholarly/professional/creative activities required, with publication in the field of specialization desirable.

Responsibilities: The University especially seeks individuals who will contribute to both their chosen disciplines and the University’s commitment to student success. The standard teaching load at Northridge is 12 units (4/4) per semester (3/3 for the first two years), although competitive reassigned time is available for research and/or curriculum development. The successful candidate for this position will likely be asked to teach surveys of British and/or American literature and will be encouraged to develop new upper-level and graduate courses in her/his area of expertise. While all full-time faculty remain eligible to teach lower division writing courses, the majority of these courses are taught by lecturer faculty. In practice, lower division writing courses are only assigned to full-time faculty members with specializations in composition or rhetoric, or to those specifically requesting such courses.

We seek scholars with demonstrated teaching excellence, and with evidence of a developed research trajectory. We are particularly interested in candidates with administrative skill and leadership potential interested in the possibility of directing the Dickens Project, a Multicampus Research Unit (MRU) of the University of California headquartered at UCSC, though they need not be Dickens specialists. The successful candidate will focus on the intersection of diaspora, postcolonial, and eighteenth-century studies, and the transcultural intertextuality of African discourses in literature and other forms of popular culture.

The Department of English at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision at the Assistant Professor level in twentieth-century Irish literature and culture, to begin August 2015. Candidates with expertise in teaching global and world literatures and/or mythology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active record of publication and to teach a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses. The teaching load is 2/2 for tenure-track faculty with a significant research agenda.
Minimum Qualifications: 1) PhD in English earned by August 1, 2015; 2) specialization in 20th century Irish Literary Studies; 3) evidence of scholarly promise/achievement; and 4) record of successful college-level teaching.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a significant record of publications, teaching excellence on the undergraduate and graduate level, demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively with faculty and students in interdisciplinary programs, as well as secondary expertise and ability to teach English 292/293 (World Literature or Mythology), and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
